the VIN or chassis number is given to the car from factory as its ID along with a build date. Compliance plate is fitted when the vehicle arrived into the country to shows it applies to the current ADRs. There can some times be months or even years between dates sometimes.

If there is months between then car is usually an import... and I don't mean like Fast and Furious grey import... i mean the vehicle was genuinely built in another country, came to Australia on a boat, and then had to be complianced to meet with ADR standards... Unless you own a vehicle that has an assembly plant in Australia, i.e. Camry, Aurion, Corolla, Falcon, Territory, Commodore, etc... then there will usually be between 1 and 3 months between build date and compliance. Some vehicles its even longer especially if it is a purpose built or heavily optioned vehicle such as many euros and yank tanks...

Fast and Furious import would only be 24 hours between build and compliance - they'd overnight from Japan.

Hi mate not sure how to use this..

But I have a 2003 tarago.. Took it down for a blueslip yesterday in nsw..

Said they couldn't pass it as they couldn't find where the second lil metal plate is.. This car has been in this town for over 10 years serviced by the same mechanic but yet now says he doesn't know where the other plate is located on the car to put a blueslip there..

It's extremely stressful I'm a single mum of 3 brought this car to get my kids around and now this 😢

Any ideas where it would be?.. There is the one under the bonnet but can't find another one anywhere
