Bought a new Corolla Hatch but has paint stains inside the car

I bought a new Toyota Corolla Hatch late December of 2011.

I get home and notice paint stains inside the car and on both front doors.

There was also a deep cut in the front left wheel.

I phone and email to complain but they ignore me.

I was also told I wouldf get three sets of car keys. I only get 2.

I paid for a standard mirror for $90 extra. That wasn't installed:(

I gave up months ago with them. I take my car elsewhere to get serviced.

Page 2 of my Toyota Corolla Hatch which shows that the sales manager of failed to fill

out the Pre-Delivery Service Maintenance Record. If they had of done that check then they would have come across the paint stains.

The paint stains are aboiut a foot long and about half a foot wide.

I won't mention the dealer that I bought it from in WA.

Recently my father passed away so couldn't get in there to get a planned service at another Toyota dealer as I won't go back to that dealer I bought the car from again. Anyway couldn't get the car in and because I missed not getting the car in by a month for a service they can't do it until late December which sounds crazy to me.

My car is making loud banging noises from the back left of the car. I have it in there now getting looked at.

I have a carcam attached to my front window of the car and have recorded the banging noises.

I read there is a general recall for Toyota Corollas. What year models are the recalls on please ?

This is the recall article. http://news.toyota.c...w-master-switch

As part of a worldwide campaign, Toyota Australia has announced a recall on certain Corolla, Kluger, RAV4, Yaris, Aurion and Camry vehicles built between 2006 and 2010.

Have you lodged a complaint with the Ombudsman/ACCC? Have you documented and/or have documents of all of the events of contact about the issues etc.?

Perhaps having a read of the following site -> http://www.accc.gov..../itemId/854467.

So out of curiosity, how come you have let these issues drag on for almost 12 months?

Feel sorry for you man. Had different problems with my car too while it was under warranty, but the dealer didn't care too much. They "tried" to fix them, but mostly no success.

I think you should tell the dealer's name so that everyone knows where not to go!

Hmmm doesn't sound good at all! :(

One suggestion, bring it to another Toyota dealer and present it to them. Might be a wide shot but might get people talking and might help you get higher up the Toyota chain.

Thank you for replying.

I contacted the Ombudsman via email and they said that they do not look at privately owned businesses.

They only look at government departments.

I contacted the Department of Commerce and nothing came of that along with the ACCC.

All I ever got was automated replies saying that they had received my complaints.

My father had alzheimers and I was looking after him at home. He became ill around March and then in and out of hospital

before he died mid year. Then all the paper work which is still going on to ths day but not as bad as before.

Trust me I did contact Toyota Australia many times and have documented everything. When my Dad became quite ill I decided I would spend what time he had left with him. I mentioned that to Toyota but they didn't seem to care.

I only bought this Toyota Corolla Hatch as I had a Toyota Corolla Hatch for 17 years which was very reliable. This new car has been reliable until the last week or so when loud banging noises started to occur. So loud were the noises I thought I wasn't going to make it home in the car. Its at a Toyota dealer now getting looked at now. They've taken it for a test drive but not re created the loud noise.I explained the loud noise has only happeded about 5 times in the last few times I took it out to drive. I find it odd they can't find anything wrong with it. Maybe I need to take it to the RAC to get inspected or a non Toyota dealer.

I am amazed that Toyota won't service the car until the next service due in late December of this year. That really does baffle me.

I'll contact the department of commerce again along with the ACCC via email and by phone but don't expect anything to come of it.

It does seem to take them many weeks before they may look at the case. Under staffed it what they probably are.

I contacted Toyota and said I would post in car forums a fe wdays ago and they didn't seem to bothered.

I'm considering contacting the news paper to start agitating as this is beyond a joke now.

If I buy a PC and it breaks down I take it back for repair or replacement without to much fuss. Buy a car and its a different story.

The resale value will be a lot less with these paint stains in the car. I can't believe Toyota is treating a valued customer so poorly.

My other Toyota I could book it in any time I liked for a service and did so once or twice a year. Only sold it because it was getting quite old and the last two times it went it the cost was $2400 and $900 so thought it was time to get a new car.

The car is currently at a different Toyota dealer but they won't do a service to it as I missed the last one by a month and I couldn't do much about that as my Dad died and there were more important things to be done.

The Toyot adealer I've gone to will only look at the loud banging noise. They say I need to come back in late Dec which is of course the holiday season. Why they waste time by having it sent back again and not doing a serrvice now I think begs belief.

Been on the phone with a friend who knows cars and his friend bought a Toyota 4wd and later found out that Toyota are outsourcing some of the parts to China and when his Toyota went in to get repaired it was the Chinese made parts that had failed.

I really wish they wouldn't outsource. I don't mind paying more for quality. Its why I went for a Corolla Hatch over a Hyundai which was $9000 cheaper.

I thought I was paying for top service and for quality build of a new car.

Time for my dinner now. I'll post when I was buying the siolly games that went on and if I hadn't of done a down payment I would have aborted buying from this dealer.

Sorry to hear about your father. Yeah unfortunately ACCC takes a while to review cases. Perhaps try what Dwee suggested and also with the noise issue perhaps get it inspected independently.

Show pics of the paint interested ? Is it primer paint or the paint of your car ??

ACA ! They will get it done.. Cameras in the boss' office fo shizzle !

Thank you for your replies.

The paint stains are on the inside door on both front doors. Its over the arm rests.

Its looks horrible.

My car is at a different Toyota dealer. They've looked ta the bamging sound and can't re produce it. Their man for lookng at such issues is away and comes back in 2 weeks. This other Toyota dealer I've gone to seems more professional than the other car yard I bought it at. They are not going to charge me any money for them looking at it which is a relief.

I can't get my car serviced unbtil late Dec. This must be on a Toyota Aust PC where they look at certain times of the year where it has to be serviced and if its missed for any reason the car owner has to wait for another few months for the next cycle. This seems very foolish to force customers to bring it in at certain times of the year. My old Toyota never had such restictions on when to bring the car in. I would have thought they give a owner two times a year for a service to bring it in. My father getting ill and then dying doesn't sway them which is very poor in my opinion.

The next time the car is to be serviced on their system is late Dec right smack in the middle of the holiday season. If I don't get it done then well ythe next time will be mid year. Madness and not the way to run a busines sin my opinion.

I will upload some pics of the inside of the car later today.

Here is a small image of one paint stains on the car door. Up on the top right of the image and another smaller paint stain slighty left of the window buttons.

The drivers side handle inside for opening the door is full of scratch marks as well and the arm rest looks very worn.

I think personally its a second hand door fitted to a new car or maybe I was sold a demo model car. The car yard in question was trying to sell me a fairly new demo but I wanted a new car not a demo car.

I've had to edit out the old image as it seems to get deleted from attachments.

Not sure what is going on with my images that stay up in attachments for about 6 hours then get deleted.

Am I doing something wrong ?

I upload to Attachments.

Then I go to My Media and click on the Attachments folder to get the image that I've uploaded.

On pickup I wouldn't of picked up the car of I was u I'd give the keys back and say replace it...

If I had of noticed it I would have done that on the day of the pickup.

It was only when I got home I notiiced it and then I phoned to say that but they basically ignored me.

I even emailed the sales lady and she totally ignored this. I then discovered a group owned this car yard

and another 5 car yards so contacted them and they ignored my requests.

And I also contacted Toyota Australia about it many times and they chose not to reply in person. All I ever get are automated replies like below between the "=======".

Not the way to run a company. Since learned that others have had troubles with them.

Compard to the other doors in the car this door looks an old used door and with paint stains.

Page 2 of my Toyota Corolla Hatch which shows that the sales manager of the place I bought it the Toyota failed to fill

out the Pre-Delivery Service Maintenance Record. I can scan that in and upload it here. If they had of bothered filling that in

along then they would have had to inspect inside the car which they didn't. I've mentioned this to Toyota Australia

customer service and again they choose to ignore my emaisl. All I ever get from them are automated repliues like this:

========================

We wish to confirm receipt of your correspondence addressed to Toyota Motor Corporation Australia (TMCA) in relation to above mentioned vehicle. Your letter has been read with all due care and handed to the Customer Experience Centre for investigation and response.

We assure you that the concerns raised have been noted accordingly, and a response will be issued at the conclusion of our investigation.

We reiterate our thanks for your correspondence and the opportunity to resolve this matter for you.

========================

I have so many of these automated Toyota replies.

The above I sent them that I was going to post in here in the hope that they get their act together but nothing will come of it.

My next step is to upload a video of the car on Youtube with the paint stains and the deep cut in the front tyre which I saw when I got home that first day after buying it.

They seem to know that they can get away with it. They know full well the authorities won't waste their time on small fry like myself.

The whole system seems that its not there to help the little guy.

Maybe its time to go to the news papers to alert others.

Any of the fellow Toyota club members that have bouight a new car is the Pre-Delivery Service Maintenance Record on page 2

of the manual filled out.

Thank you for all the replies so far.

Sorry to hear about your situation, I'm surprised by the poor customer service shown by the dealer and toyota australia especially

Can't open the picture of your paint stains, but it must've been one ****ty dealership to let a car go just like that or he must've sold you a demo as a new car, but that still doesn't explain the paint stains

Either way the dealership sounds pretty dodgy

As for not being able to book in for a service till mid december, that may be as they're probably booked out till then

Realistically any dealer will book your car in for a service every week if you don't mind paying, so theres nothing like certain times of the year only for a service

I'd suggest going down to the dealership who sold you the car and to talk it out with the boss, a bit of screaming from the customer generally gets most things fixed right away at any decent dealership or workshop

I'll post a larger image.

Here is a larger image at 222k. The other one I had takes to long to load.

I've contacted other Toyota dealers and they tend to look on a computer and tell me they won't service until late December.

I took my car in to have a look at the loud noise that sometimes is heard when in the car coming from the rear left side.

Their main techo guy wasn't there but I have it booked in for later this month. They won't do a car service though which I still find odd. You'd think they would want to get it out of the way without me needing to come backl there in 5 weeks time. The blame for that has to go to Toyota Australia.

I tried many times with the Toyota dealer I bought it from. When I got an injury my DR asked how things were going and I said they could be better but for what was happening wioth Toyota. He asked which dealer and I told him and he said he too had a terrible experience with that dealer. Since found a few others had bad experiences with them as well.

There are some good Toyota dealers in Perth. Its a matter of asking around before buying I guess.

My next idea is to upload a video to Youtube.

9 days after I sent my email about the car door again to Toyota Customer Experience Centre via email all I've had is that automated reply on Nov 20.

How can they ignore this.

Here is the paint stains on the car door.

Another family member wants to buy a car and after this messing around by Toyota Australia I think we will go another brand of hatchback car.

Toyota Australia finally got back to me. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!

They say the car dealer in question has contacted me many times about getting the car in for a service and that I have not contacted them.

I have emails back and forth about my car door and each time they refuse to reply about this matter. The car group that owns this car yard and others has also chosen to ignore my requests on why paint stains were on the interior of the car door. There is also some paint stains on the other car door.

They are saying that the dealer will service the car but are not saying anything about the paint stains.

I can't believe they are still ignoring this.

Here is the image of the paint stains on the car door. As you can see the inside of the car door is quite faded as well where my other car doors the interior is much blacker. There are also these scratch marks on the inside handle to open the car door. I'm of the opinion its spare door from another car or I was sold a demo car.

No it isn't.

What a ridiculous thought process you must possess if that is the lesson you got out of it.

the motto of this story, check ur car COMPLETELY before driving it away from the dealer.

More to do with the dealer. If I had of known about this forum I would have posted a question on where in Perth is a good honest car yard.

I've since found another Toyota dealer in Perth which so far seem very honest.

In the age of the blog I don't know why the car dealer in question are doing this.

I would have pushed them harder long ago but I hads to look after my Dad with Alzheimers who

went down hill then died mid year. There was more important things to do at the time and after his passing. Its only now

that I have more free time to get this sorted out.

Where I picked it up the new car it was in a hanger where the light was a bit darker than outside.

And when I picked it up my first thoughts were it looks a nice car and I looked forward to driving it.

My mind was elsewhere with excitement of buying my new car.

When I go to buy anything new I expect it to be just that new.

Sure there can be DOA things boughts at shop and a simple replacement takes place.

I can't believe they sold a car with paint stains inside the car door. Its pretty poor.

Recently I noticed in the manual on page two where there is a check list and one of them was

in the car. The whole check list is suppose to be ticked off and signed by the sales manager

but this wasn't ticked or signed by anyone so they trhemselves have forgotton to fill it in.

My eye attention was the dashboard and the controls. I didn't think of looking at the car interior doors dfown the side.

When I was looking at buying they said I would get mats inside the car and that boot mat so that if I was placing

heavy objects in the boot that I could slide the mat over where the back hatch boot door is to protect it.

When I bought it there was no mats in it. Was suppose to get a third set of car keys as well.

Don't know if this is normal behavoir from sales but when I was buying it and had paid the money with

a bank cheque I was then taken into another room where they offer a 12 month and two year entended warranty.

They really push this but I said it was a complete waste of money as Toyota's never break down going on my previous

Toyota Corolla which I had for 17 years and that never broke down at any point. It did need work later on though.

Anyway this bald headed chap said I should get entended warranties because there maybe problems with

the engine and other stuff. He was really pushing me to pay the extra $1500 for a two year extended warranty but

I wasn't going to budge knowing full well these are a waste of time. To stop him saying I must do this because the car will break down

I said well if its that bad maybe I should abort the transaction. Then he stopped his chatter and immediatly said that the car should be

ok and tehy were very reliable and he then said that the problem was with european cars.

My advice take a recording device in when buying a Toyota car from any dealer.

I've kept all my emails over this since I bought the car back in Dec of 2011.

There is no way I will ever go back there again. I wiull get my car serviced from another Toyota dealer.

Toyota Australia did get back to me after 3 weeks. Maybe oinly because I said I posted the paint stain on the car door

in a Toyota forum. Toyota said they contacted the dealer in question and the dealer said to Toyota that they had tried to contact

me but I never replied which is a lie. Each time when they contact me I say what about the paint stains and they choose to ignore it

so no way will I go near them.

I find it amazing that they can do this to a customer of theirs. Our family has been sending our cars there for nearly 20 years.

Starting to think the last two years when they said my previous Toyota needed $2400 and then $900 work may have been

a bit dodgy.

The car warranty appartently doesn't cover 5 parts of the car which I find odd. The ABS brakes and I think the battery.

I can see if a customer stops to hard all the time will ware out the brakes but what if after a week the brakes are stuffed.

Over all I'm happy with the car performance. I wish thogh that they would make modern cars of all brands where it was possible to

see the front of the car. When going through narrow gaps its always a guess as to how far out I am. Parking isn't much fun either.

The car is quite wide. Wider than my parents Avalon. It only just gets in the garage and thanks to the mirrors folding in I would

never get it in without hitting something.

  • 2 weeks later...

I get my car serviced on Dec 30 which is now only 11 days away. Why I couldn't have it done weeks ago will remain a great mystery.

The loud banging sound from the rear of the car has gone away but will get them to look at it.

While its getting serviced I'll ask about what they plan to do with the paint stains that were on the door from day one.

Surely they should replace it with a new door.

I'm getting the car serviced at the other car yard and not the place that I bought it from.

My car still has paint stains in it and I still have a car tyre with a deep cut on the outside and was promised a third set or keys and mats so can't do much about that.

All that is happening is my car is having a service. The paint stains I will have to put up with or get a new car door which are not cheap.

Toyota Australia ought to be getting it fixed their end. All they do is contact the dealer that sold me the car and tell them to contact me which

this last time they haven't.

I wouldn't buy a toyota again.
