Hey everyone. I'm back to being the proud owner of a camry. After some advice about some excessive smoke from the exhaust on start up. Definitely from burning oil judging by colour and smell. Have receivied a very mixed bag of options from mechanics to fix this problem,. Very disappointed with toyota service centre who don't really seem interested in even looking at a repair for the problem as the assumption is that the cost of the repair is too high considering the cost of the car. Seeing its extremely hard to find a good used car i'm very interested in hanging onto this vehicle which is good in all other respects. Could anyone help with suggestions and or mechanics in Sydney for this problem.

Full engine swap is wasteful for a 20 series.

Have a look at the 36 series. Cheap as chips now and a big leg up over the 20 series.

Hey, this will help with your sludge!

: buy 2 bottles of oil. a bottle of cheap crap. and a bottle of your normal oil,

: a bottle of engine flush

: 2 oil filters.

perform 2 oil changes. drain the oil when its warm, its runnier and will empty your motor out better.

put in the cheap oil and the engine flush, had the filter, run it for 15 minutes.

drain that out when it warm.

put in the good oil and filter.

you might have to flush it a few times with cheap oil if you need to, you want to clean the inside of your motor.. much cheaper than a mechanic's opinion.

now check your pcv valve, if this is clogged it will cause your engine to sludge and rob performance.

on your valve cover there will be a hose attached to it. pull the hose off and undo the pcv ( has a barb )usually a 22 mm or similar its a one way valve so it is designed to only let pressure out , not in, they are quite cheap. repco should sell them.

Hey bluemeany, thanks for the least intrusive (and cheapest) suggestion, i'll do this first and see if ti remedies the problem. Would i need to do valve stem seals as well in order to fix the smoking problem or only if cleaning out the sludge doesn't fix the problem?
