Hi guys, just bought a later model 2006 Camry Sportivo (Auto) and there's a whirring noise whenever I start it up or begin to accelerate from rest, however this goes away when it is starting to drive.
I've been told it's a 'flexi-pipe' vibration, and that there's nothing you can do to prevent the noise, as a replacement will still do the same thing.

Can anyone offer any more info on this?

Thanks!

Hmmm that's odd - when did this start? Was it since you've had the car or is it a recent thing?

It's been like that ever since I got the car, which I only bought a couple of days ago.
The rest of the engine seems to be in good nick, there's no other strange noises apart from when I begin to accelerate from rest, and I think it's worst when I've only got the revs quite low.

I've been told it's a 'vibrating flexi-pipe' or something, any ideas?

Thanks

I think it could be your alternator that is about to go (one of the diodes could've died).

My car did it when one of my diodes blew I remember now. The car was charging at 10v, had to keep the revs up so it would charge. I had it fixed, then it blew again months later. Now I have a brand new alternator, set me back $600 lol

Get it checked and make sure its charging at 13v approx. If you have a meter, just start your car and put the negative to the negative and positive to positive on the battery. Should give you a reading anything under 11v is bad.

Thanks fivese7en,

The car just recently passed it's road-worthy certificate when I purchased the vehicle.

Do you know if the alternator would have been checked during the certification process?

They would have done a standard check but I'm not sure if that includes a battery and recharge check. You can take it to a mechanic, it`ll take him 5 minutes to check and I highly doubt he will charge you for pointing a volt meter at your battery ;)
