Montoya is an up-himself ******.

I have some distaste for Schumacher, but he proved in 94' that persistance pays off.

Bennetton - Ford

Ford didn't exactly have the greasest motor either. A lot of teams were running it.

Zonta takes on Laguna Seca

Toyota on display at Laguna Seca

Demonstration laps from Ricardo Zonta

16/08/06 11:07

Ricardo Zonta to experience the corkscrew

Spectators at Laguna Seca will receive a rare opportunity at the 33rd Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races this weekend, when the Toyota team will run demonstration laps around the 11-turn, 2.238-mile circuit.

The TF106 car, piloted by Ricardo Zonta, will hit the track on Friday from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. to make final set-up adjustments and then demonstration runs will take place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons as part of an F1 car showcase that displays the evolution of early F1 cars to present. Zonta, who won the 1997 FIA GT Championship race at Laguna Seca, has publicly stated that he estimates top speed as 195 mph in ideal conditions.

In bringing the F1 car to Monterey, Toyota wants to provide an unusual and exciting opportunity for race participants and spectators to view an F1 car up close on the track and in the garage, said Jim Farley, Toyota vice president of marketing. Other than the recent United States Grand Prix in Indianapolis, this is the only appearance the F1 car will make in the U.S.

and the only time it will be easily accessible for viewing by spectators.

The Panasonic Toyota Racing Team is excited and honoured to share our F1 car with everyone at the Monterey Historic event,” said Team President John Howett. With only one race in the U.S. it is difficult for fans to experience F1 and to get an idea of the technology behind it. Ricardo and the crew are looking forward to being part of the demonstration runs, showcasing the evolution of Formula 1 car construction, and giving fans the opportunity to encounter F1 live and up-close in the garage.

I hope they do 1 flying lap without traction control just to see how it compares to a champ car.

also at this website... pretty much the same article.

Keep an eye out this weekend

Will Toyota have any major developments on the car in Turkey?

PV: We will have some very interesting aerodynamic developments around the front wing. We know what we could expect from the wind tunnel but we will have to check afterwards to see if the figures match up on the track. But it is certainly one of the most interesting updates of the season for us.

Well done to Massa on his maiden Win!

What a race that was.. so much overtaking i forgot it was F1 :P

  • 2 weeks later...

Zonta (Toyota test driver) is also confirmed at Renualt.. he's supposed to give them the team a boost on the Bridgestones next season.

Rain ay?.. no wonder the honda boys are looking confident :P :P :lol:

and alonso *might* get lucky from a ferrari white wash

Personally i'd like to see alonso crash out on the first corner and scheuy go on the win it, that way we'll get a cracker final 3 races :D

Hope toyota do good too.. sometimes they're too aggressive in difficult conditions and ends up back-firing ;)

Dream grid for Ferrari and Kimi. And looks like BMW is in the mix too. Another disappointment from Toyota and Williams <_<

grr that grid pisses me off! damn alonso should be 5th!

also

is why alonso is demoted...for 'blocking' massa

@DHCO9 thanx for the heads up in the other thread.

and to answer your question, that is definately the lap, alonso had just come out of the pits in it. massa complained that alonso cost him time at the parabolica, if u watch he feathers the throttle on the way out.

ok yes alonso might have cost him some time, but what else could he do? he was at 10/10ths on his outlap to make it to the start finish line to get another lap. so he lets massa by and either

1. doesn't make it to start his flying lap on time

or

2. still manages to make it but gets baulked by massa on his flyer!

and the stewards... tony scott andrews (the permanent one) and Enzo Spano and Alessandro Tibiletti

not suggesting there is bias...but conspiracy theories will :D

yeah that will be the key to it, getting through those first corners!

he seems to have a knack for getting the absolute maximum out of a situation, so i don't see why he can't do alright from 10th...as u said he can normally make up a row off the start...will be interesting!
