OD Lights/Check Engine and Fuel Gauge

Hi All,

Just bought my first ever Toyota. It is a Camry CSI 2000 Automatic Sedan with 171,000Km. All is well for one (1) week. After I noticed the problems.

FUEL GAUGE

- Every time I turned off the engine and put the car to garage, the fuel gauge moves to FULL. Even if the real petrol on the tank is just half

- So next day in the morning, the fuel gauges is still FULL.

- WHen I start the engine and drive, the fuel gauge gradually moves to the "real" reading which is half tank.

OD LIGHTS OFF (blinking) Check Engine lights (ON)

- When I started the car and drive for about 1 - 5 minutes, the Check Engine lights went ON and now is not turning off, the O/D off Lights is also blinking.

- Now, check engine lights now always ON, the O/D OFF lights only blinks for like, 1 - 5 minutes and would turn off, but the Check Engine lights stays lighted

Now I'm really worrying, please advise for my two problems.

Thank you very much in advance

I just noticed that the check engine amd od off blinking happens on cold start usually in the morning when i start my car around 6am. Could be an issue of cold start?

There is no point speculating on what might be causing it if you don't know what is physically faulty, just pull the codes first and see what that tells you.

Hi, went to mechanic yesterday to check the error codes. Upon checking, he said that no error codes are available. He just said that it could be caused by the loose battery terminal which he tightened.

But now, when i tried to start the car, the oD lights still blinks and the check engine light is steady. This goes on for around 5 mins of drive. After 5 mins, the flashing is gone

  • 2 weeks later...

I need your help, now od off blinking, odometer no display, speedometer notworking, and check engine lights steady on.

Been told by mechanic its the speedo transducer.

But got info from other source that a fuse replacement might be causing this, as the problem only happens during morning at cold start.

I need to now which fuse to replace and what partname(fuse) should i get.

Help please

Hi All,

I have "googled" around for some solution, and I stumbled on one article that says I need to replace the fuse located just below the steering wheel. I found the "10" fuse for GAUGE.

So I got a "fuse" reserve on the fuse box under the bonnet "10" and replaced the one located below the steering wheel inside the car.

The blinking seems to go away and all is fine, for the moment, but I got to monitor this for one week.

One question, is there a proper way to put the fuse? (like a + or - sign) Or I can just insert it the way I want.

Sigh.....

To my dismay, the fuse replacement didn't seem to get the job done. I still got that blinking OD lights off and check engine lights on...

Anyway, I'll try to find an auto electrician just to have to trace the wirings and all. Replacement of the whole VSS quoted to me was ranging from $470 - $480.

I wish it is just a wiring problem..... :( :( :(
