Removing auto from 96 Vienta

An old Hayes manual. It discusses only taking the engine and gearbox out as on. From my understanding I should be able to drop the transmission out without touching the engine, or is this not so?

You may have to brace the engine, drop the sub-frame and come out through the bottom if you try and split them.
