i'm all for school speed zones, if you ever had to take/pick-up kids from school you know why. But if they have a friggin camera, they should use electronic sign to tell when they switch over. I had to borrow an old car and didn't realise the clock was faulty. After doing things all day and not looked at other clocks i thought it was well before 2:30pm. Only after a while i realised i went through the zone at around 50kmh at approx 2:40pm.

I haven't received the fine yet, but when i do and if the time is under 10 minutes. Should i contest it?

How hard is it to use electronic signs? the highways have them. i bet many motorists are caught just becaue their time is off by few minutes.

I agree, I don’t know when its school holidays or if my clock matches the police watch, or in different areas of the city the times vary when you travel from your normal routine  . If they are serious about safety Flashing lights when it’s a 40 zone is the only way to make it clear and ensure safety for children ;)

Well the fine will go to the owner of the old car, and then be forwarded to you. The fact that you didn't own the car along with details (ie: if the registration details show that it is an old car and that you driving this car was a rarity), and present that with the fact that you were doing 50kph, meaning you were doing your best to observe the law - which you believe in, maybe you have grounds for consideration. Good luck!

I think the 40 zones are a load of BS!!

If the government really cared for childrens safety and the flow of traffic at these times, they would nto implemenet 40zones on main highways, they would fence the section off and build a walkway over the road for the safety of the children. im not saying this for EVERY school zone but for MAIN highways and known slow areas use a bit of common sense ... they only have a few billion dollars excess in the kitty ...

and while they are at it .. fix the water pipes and the roads and stop being scrooge bags.

Im in one the highest rate paying areas in sydney and my roads are some of the WORST in terms on cracks and potholes.

Anyway Rant off

There is a school zone in our neighbourhood which has signs with yellow lights that flash when the school zone is in effect. A cheap, effective idea.

Doesn't slow down some clowns, though! :P

yea, even with flashing lights would work. but since there are cameras on princes hwy (kogarah), they're not going to bother and catch as many motorists as possible.
