ST204R Celica no spark.

I'm new to here, just looking for a little advice. My neighbour has an ST204R 1996 Celica with the 5S - FE engine. It died on his wife the other day and he asked me to look at it. There was no spark from the coil, so we got our hands on a replacement coil. Only when replacing the coil did I find the capacitor hidden under it, and found that to be open circuit, reading like 5 pf. I found a replacement capacitor, 0.1 uf, which may not be the correct value, but better than nothing.

Still no spark, so I checked the 2 coils in the distributor, they are to manufacturers specs. I checked the output with an oscilloscope, and we are getting a pulse from both coils. Thought I would check the fault codes in the ECU, so connected the link from TE1 to E1 on the Diagnostics port , but no MIL lamp comes up in the dash. He doesn't have the owners manual, so I can't see where the MIL lamp should be illuminating is the dash. Possibly the bulb is blown but I really don't want to dissemble the dash to find out. So would anybody have a copy of the dash display layout, and would you be able to show which lamp is the MIL lamp.

i'll monitor the output to this lamp on the ECU with the oscilloscope, so that would give me some idea of any stored faults, which hopefully will allow me to trace the fault. I am suspecting the Ignitor, but I don't have a second hand one to test with. If anybody has any other ideas on what could cause this fault, it would be greatly appreciated.

I am an electronics tech, so I have a bit of test gear on hand, problem everybody around here on Thursday Island knows this, so I'm always getting jobs like this handed my way.

Cheers

Trent, it turns over, simply no spark at all from the coil. The MIL lamp is not illuminating at all, even when the ignition is turned on, so I'm suspecting a blown bulb, just don't want to removing the dash to check it, that's a lot of work. And as it is not working, I cannot tell which light it is on the dash. that's why I was after a layout of the dash to see which lamp it is.

cheers.
