Good morning :D

In South Africa we have recently had 95 Octane ( unleaded ) introduced at altitude.

Will my ECU change the timing automatically or will Toyota have to do it?

I have the 3ZZ-FE engine - same as the 1ZZ-FE engine except for the displacement.

I have been using 93 octane and have only done 6000km with the engine.

Any noticable performance improvement ?

Thanks :)

Yullin Iv never heard of adjusting the timeing with fuel change. But the ECU should do all that.

what 95 are you using? Sasol,BP,Caltex or Shell?

Hello Corzza

Apparantly the 95 takes longer to burn and will require that the timing changes.

It is Caltex, few and far between though and costs about 15c more :o

What octane do most Corolla drivers use in Australia ?

Thanks :D

I've been using 100RON since coming back from Qld. I'm going back to Vortex 98 as I haven't seen much improvement and it's about 6c/L cheaper.

but to answer your question about fuel over here, most corolla drivers (the everyday ones) use 91RON most here use 95RON premium and some use 98RON. Most of the 2ZZ-GE drivers use 98 RON.

The ECU will make the necessary changes if needed.

I the days of non EFI/ECU engines, they did/do benefit from changes to the timing if you know you'll only be using one type of fuel. However modern engines don't require this.
