2006 gli tarago random stalling

2006 GLI Tarago

Recommended Posts

The mechanics and auto electrican have no idea what the problem is with our 2006 Tarago.

It has gone on now for approx 8months. Randomly stalls when slowing down to stop but starts immediatly just like someone has turned the engine off.

It also surges/jerks I guess when driving on the highway randomly. It can go for days with no issues then will do it 10 times in a row but always starts .

We have had one coil replaced, some relay replaced, we use premium fuel.

We had an ants nest in the relay box and the ants ate the coating which surposedly blew the alternator and have had issues randomly ever since.

They put the computer on and no faults show up so they are scratching their heads but costing us a fortune in the meantime.

Can anyone shed some light?

Same issue same model. No ants nest that I know of. No faults show in logs. Mechanic did a throttle relearn and a few other things as I had the battery disconnected for a short while. Seemed to be okay and now it starts happening again. Also blows driving lamps (low beam) regularly and there’s a short in the cigarette lighter circuit so it can’t be used for charging and is disconnected.
My guess is there’s an intermittent short somewhere that shuts the motor off. Will be difficult to track that down.

When it comes to such problems, You need to have a good wiring diagram and some tools like Techstream, multi meter and power probe. Otherwise you need help of a good mechanic with their Autel or Snap On scanner.

Hey mate,  that was happening with an au falcon I owned a few years back and had mechanics and auto electrical guys stumped, I decided off my own back to change the auto transmission filter and oil and all problems were gone,  I'm not saying this is your problem but I had the same symptoms as you and that did the trick
