I have a 2009 Corolla, and I'm wondering if the cigarette lighter socket is smaller in this model? The reason being, I can't put my Nav Sav connection or phone charger connection in the socket without really trying to push it in, and even then, it will just pop out after a while.

I have no other problems connecting my Nav Sav or phone charger into the cigarette lighter socket of my other car (X Trail) or my 2 work vehicles (Toyota Commuter and Commodore).

I was wondering if they are smaller can you get an adapter? I did try on Spare Parts Retail shop, and he didn't sell them or know of the problem.

Thanks Concord

Hmmm, I thought they would be standard, but wonder why I can't the Nav Sav or phone charger in the socket? Well, I'll try again, and this time I guess I will try and "force" it in - hope nothing breaks???

They are standard width; however, there are differences in manufacturing tolerances and mounting angles of the socket.

Thanks Trent

Nothing wrong with the angle but as you say there could be a difference in the manufacturing tolerances?

Just to make sure I got this post right, I just put my Nav Sav into my X Trail lighter socket - fitted like a glove. Tried the same thing with the Corolla socket, and even using all my force, the same Nav Sav won't go in. I've got a feeling the socket is just not as deep as it should be?

Therefore the Corolla lighter is not standard with the other vehicles I drive i.e. X-Trail, Commodore and Toyota Commuter - strange?

I've finally SOLVED the problem, having tried sticking more adapters into the cigarette lighter without success.

I knew that the actual cigarette lighter itself fitted nicely into the socket, but did it work - no, it didn't. So, I took the lighter out, and got a pair of long nosed pliers, and stuck that into the socket as I thought there may have something at the bottom of the socket which shouldn't be there?

I was correct, it appears to be a safety device that stops the cigarette lighter from being pushed all the way in so it can heat up. Yes, it's a "child's proof" device. So, with the pliers I just pulled out the device (like a plastic button), and now ALL adapters can fit into the cigarette lighter socket, and they work!

So, you were right - the socket is standard, but you have to take the safety device out before you can fit an adapter(or the lighter itself), and use it.
