100 series fuel tanks

Hi

I have a 2004 land cruiser 100 series V8 petrol. 

I can only seem to put in 120L of fuel into the two tanks, even when I've run them both down to under the red empty line, I thought they were supposed to hold 145L??

also, when the main tank is getting low below 1/4 full, it starts taking fuel from the sub tank without me switching it over ?

by the time the main tank low light is on, the sub tank is 3/4 full.

is this how it's supposed to work ??

You would be surprised how much fuel is left in the tank after the fuel light comes on. It is generally in the 10-15L range.
