Rattle on start up

Hi All

My Aurion Prodigy 2008 sometimes has a slight rattle on start up. It was doing it quite regularly until the oil pipe leaked and was replaced ( apparently a recall I wasn't aware of) It's been running fine, however, I notice occasionally it will rattle on start up. I love this car, I've done 195000 since buying it with 36000 on the clock and have no intentions of changing it anytime soon.  I only travel 5000 per year. Just want to make sure I'm across any issues. My question, is this something I should be concerned about? I service it  regularly and use recommended oil.

Seeing that the rattle is only happening occasionally, I would not be too concerned. However, it is something to keep monitoring in case it starts to happen much more frequently. There are other threads on this Forum where members have changed the oil viscosity, sometimes lower and sometimes higher with pleasing results.

In other cases, the issue has been caused by loose bolts on the VVTi controller.

Can I ask if you've checked your engine for sludge ? The 2GR-FE is a prime candidate for this if proper oil service isn't followed. If you're doing 5k annually, then I'd also replace the oil at this same time or less. Frequent short trips degrades the oil faster and this could have ramifications for the VVTi system.

Also have a read of these

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. Fortunately I have been changing the oil regularly so that will help especially with the low k's. I don't do it myself, I go to Oil change express. They seem pretty good and use the factory recommended oil.

Cheers TJ
