Hi, l have a manual 2.8l 4x4 1994 Hilux which seems hard to go from 2nd into 3rd gear. It’s easier if l double clutch it. Could it be the bush under the gear shift?

If there is some mechanical wear in the shifting mechanism, it can contribute to less than impressive gear changes, but I would look at bleeding the clutch fluid first. The slave cylinder may not be working to it's best ability. Give the hydraulic fluid a flush and see if this improves gear changes.

Did that fix it?

I have issues with 4-3 changes, 2-3 is good, 3-4 is good, but 4-3 I need to depress clutch, shift 4-2-3 and release clutch to get it to go from 4-3. Sitting at the lights with clutch depressed, I can shift 2-3 , 3-4, 4-3, 3-4, 4-3 without any difficulty, but when rolling I cannot go 4-3 direct unless I provide a LOT of force and then it only goes in about 30% of the time!
The clutch works well and engages smoothly from standing starts and no obvious issues while driving, apart from the 4-3 gear change issue.

I have been driving manual and automatic cars and trucks for over 52 years and this is the first manual vehicle that I have had with shifting issues like this.

Is there a solution?
What should I check first?
