im familiar with installing them but due to warranty and stuff im not game enough to stuff around with it..

joining the wires: any ways of conneting it and easy ways of disconnecting it?!?!

was thinking of stripping a section of the insulation and twisting the wire into it, but any toyota technician is going to notice the slice in the wire and put two and two together...

There are a few different ways to install a tacho/shift light.

In the Sportivo's case or any other car that uses 'coil packs'...you can either get the RPM signal from the ECU (this requires an ECU diagram...good luck!).

Another way is to purchase one of those tacho/shift light units that plug into your cigarette lighter. The unit measures your alternators pulse and gets its signal from there. It's easier to purchase the unit.

With older vehicles that use a distributor, you can just get the signal from the spark plug area or the dizzy itself. With coil packs, this will not work. Trust me! I've only managed to get my tacho to work with coil packs once..and that's disconnecting 2 spark plugs and running the car on 2 cyclinders. Not Healthy! Made the car sound like a Boxer engine though. hahaha

richi, a shift light is a light that comes on when your revs go past a set rpm. the simplest one will just light up just as u are about to reach the cutout. it's just easier so u know when to shift coz u dun really need to know what revs u are at sometimes and also u dun have to look down at the tacho.

I think the best way would be to splice the wire and do it that way?

I havent looked at shift lights yet but when I do (most likely when i get back from OS) I will be trying to get a dual stage light.

Sort of what you have in the drag mode in Need For Speed Underground. A Blue colour for when we are at lift! 6000 RPM and then a second colour Green for when we are at 7800 RPM (which gives us 400 RPM change band)

and I dont want a huge light either something nice small and bright will do me intergrated into the dash :)
