Brake light issue

Hi all

I’m not too handy but thought I’d ask if anything easy I can sort myself

I have a 200 series 2010 model. I chopped it to Ute last year. Even before the chop there were a few weird electrical issues happening which I think were from corroded connectors. These are all fixed currently

current issue is brake lights only come on when headlights off. However with car turned off it all works properly.

Im thinking it’s a grounding issue? Or body control module issue possibly related to previous issues from old water damage??

what should I check?
cheers
