Hi All...

I took my newly purchased (S/H) 3 Door Sportivo (1.5L...Australia) to my local performance shop to get an axle back sports muffler fitted.

He said he was happy to take my money but he warned me not to do anything to the exhaust system as he has had many sleepless nights as a result of tinkering with other VVT-i Toyota's.

He stated that the engines were so finely tunned that any deviation will alter the balance that had been painstakingly engineered into the standard configuration. He did say that there was ONE aftermarket setup that WOULD provide a desirable note and not affect performance.

The official TRD supplied muflers and headers are his only recomendation..however, the costs preclude purchase.

The muffler is $700AUD and the header is $850AUD.

I've done the usual things, Iridium plugs, K&N Air Filter.

I want to bring out as much performance WITHOUT major alteration to the system....CAI and the like, do not appeal, what else is left to do that is not brain surgery?

IIRC on the 1nzfe equipped scion in the US, the exhaust has some sort of baffle that is controlled by the ecu to control the back pressure of the exhaust to produce useful low down torque. A change to an aftermarket system produced a detrimental effect. Not sure if that applies to the 3 door sportivo as it too has the 1nzfe in the engine bay.
