iPod and USB adapters for Stock Head Units

Hi,

Yes I am new here and yes I don't own a toyota. I have an adapter in my posession from China which allows you to connect an ipod to a factory toyota stereo and control and charge the ipod directly from the stereo. I have seen these devices fitted to current model Mazdas and they work great an even let you have video out to an LCD screen from an iPod video.

Unfortunately I can't get out of the manufacturer exactly what models of toyota it fits, except that its for the Fujitsu-Ten stereo and that its for the new Corolla. Now a 95 Camry has a Fujitsu-Ten put I would think that that stereo is too old, so what I am after is two people willing to try out this adapter in Melbourne.

where would you put the adaptor anyway?

I dont see any holes.

It plugs into an auxillary port in the back of the head unit.

when i changed my OEM headunit to another OEM mp3 headunit, i noticed that there were three ports, however only 2 were actually used. Im guessing the 3rd port is for the cd changer?

First pic's deck is also in the Gen2 Rav4's if that helps you out. But I didn't think it had any auxillary ports in it.

Thanks, the unit also fits the camry, echo, corolla and prado as they use the same head unit.

The only issue is that I need to see it working as well, thanks for the offer though. Looks like I might have to hire a corolla and test it on that.

Well thanks to an unknowing hire car company we can confirm that we have a working ipod solution for 2005/2006 Toyota Corolla, Echo, Prado, Rav4 and 2005 Camry. The ipod can be controlled by the track up and track down on the stereo, playlists can be selected with the disc buttons and the ipod charges off the head unit.

Well there is a version that has a USB connector that allows you to take any USB mass storage device and read MP3's off it. Normally people use 2 & 4GB flash drives with it but I have connected a 40GB HDD to one and been able to play the MP3's from it.

Well I just took a stock stereo out of a 2005 corolla to write up some installation instructions and at the back there was four molex sockets, one for power/acc/ground, one for speaker wires and two extra sockets. The second socket from the left is the auxillary cd changer port, this is where the iPod adapter plugs into. you can see it here in this picture.

The only secret I can see here is what the left hand socket is used for.

Stock pre-Mp3 compatatle head units only have 3 plugs, the 3rd un-used and unsure what it is for, however and this is yet to be proven, I believe it may be for remote steering wheel controls.

How many pins does it have? It could be the CD-Changer port if it has 2 rows of 6 pins.

Hi All,

So is it confirmed that the adapter would work with the pre-MP3 unit ? (03 sportivo)

I wish i could check out the pinouts but miles and miles away from my car. (London at the moment), so im not much of help.

I believe that Northy is right about adapters like the one doddsy's selling only work with units with a cd changer input.

Any how doddsy if you can show it works with the pre-MP3 unit, im definately interested to get one, once i get back to sydney.

Should be the same cause I understand that the ouput plugs of both headunits are the same (at least they were in JC's MP3 HU and my non MP3 unit)

Yes they do work with with the MP3 unit as that is the one I got to test it on. It would be wrong for me to advertise these on this forum and I did start this thread to find either Melbourne owners willing to allow me to test it or other stock head units to test.       It's possible that it could be something fouling or dirt build up, dry, or a broken mechanism, so have a look and give the mechanism some lubrication, most likely though, it'll be the actuator.       Query about the correct rotors for 2006 ACV40 Camry.

      Hi, I'm looking at a set of front rotors for an ACV40 2006, 2.4L Camry. I got a good price on some RDA's at Sparesbox. However both RDA8112 and RDA7686 show as for my car and I'm wondering what the difference is and if there were changes to the rotors during the model production. So does anyone know which rotor is the correct one? Many thanks in advance.

      Your solution is akin to suggesting that switching to a different car manufacturer would resolve the issue. However, not everyone shares the same enthusiasm for using an iPhone as you do.

      Turboed Corolla Overbuilt?

      that engine will be fine, the rods are the main thing to be concerned about. The 2860 is a decent turbo for the 1zz but in this day and age I'd go for a G25-550. The injectors might be on the small side, we run DW1000's. You need a full length injector, the shorter injectors with adaptors like ID1050x dont fit the 1zz head. You don't need an aftermarket intake manifold, if you do go down that path, avoid the CNC innovations unit, it's garbage. Do the boost control with a MAC valve and control it with the aftermarket ECU of your choice, I use Link stuff on most of my builds with the G4x Storm as the minimum. I also wire a fuel pressure sensor and oil pressure sensor to the ECU in my installs. Use a decent intercooler, the better cores (ARE, PWR, Garrett, Vibrant, Plazmaman, Hypertune) work a lot better than the chinese stuff like Aeroflow. a 450x250-300 fits fairly well with custom end tanks to route the cooler pipes through next to the radiator Don't forget about the clutch and gearbox. These days I like the Uniclutch twinplate, Above 300whp you'll want to think about upgrading the 3rd and 4th gears in the box also with the SSC (Hollinger) gear set and install an LSD of your choice. If you're going to give it a hard time, you'll also want an oil cooler. I like the HKS thermostat type sandwich plates and setrab or mocal oil coolers with -10 speedflow fittings/lines (Chinese AN fittings neck down to a lot smaller internal diameter in their bends, not great for flow) You'll also want to think about brakes, Celica or Sportivo front calipers will bolt on with sportivo discs as a starting point. To have somewhere like Tunehouse do the work you'll want to budget somewhere between 20-40K

      I did the mathematics myself regarding costs vs benefits for fuel injector cleaner. I have changed from 91ULP to 95PULP and 98PULP. Price difference can be about 13 -20 cents. Compared to 91ULP, Premium quality fuel should have a better quality additive package designed to have superior engine cleaning capabilities so the engine can perform at their best.

      "Fuel injector cleaner is a waste of money" Only if you by the cheap crap if you use LiquMolly a German Product it does work and you won't waste your Money.

      Camry Touring 2010 A/C Issues.

      Hi Guys, My Camry 2010 Touring just had a regas done on it and the next day for some reason it wasn't blowing cold air but the next day it is and now working with nice cold air BUT every now and then we can hear and feel a buzz for a few secounds and today while my sister took my car I could her like a mild knocking sound when stopped but goes away when driving off. Any idea what this could be and the A/C is always working now for now.
