  1. So tell me how this is so? All 2WD models weigh 2630kg. All AWD models weigh 2720kg All models have the same engine. Yet only the Grande AWD is stated to use 0.6l/100km more? I don't think they are that heavy!!! Thats getting into Landcruiser weights;) The 2wd's are a little under 2 tonne (1930kg) with the same awd models a little over the 2 tonne mark adding around 90kg. The heaviest being the grande 7 seat awd is only around another 15kg heavier again (2035kg total from memory) Still I see your point about fuel consumption between 2wd and awd. The official adr fuel consumption figure between the 2wd/awd and grande just dont add up???? I wonder why no one has taken Toyota Australia to task about this in the 3 years since launch? In saying that I'll happily wear 600ml extra of fuel per 100km's for the added benefits and resale awd gives.
  2. Ive always wondered why Toyota quotes the 2wd/4wd kxr and kxs all at 11L/100km, but the grande awd is slightly higher at 11.6L/100km. Surely the grande's small weight difference can't add little over half a litre, or are they quoting the wrong specs for the other awd'? It has them listed as official adr consumption figures though, so I would have thought they would be correct???
  3. Hey, I orginally tried the uni-bar route (professionally fitted), and it seems like a fairly solid fit. Unfortunately was just far too much shake when using the lights (hella chrome compacts) even on relatively smooth roads. Ended up just fitting a nudge bar, no shake and rock solid. They say the nudge bar is really just a spotty holder:) and being bolted direct to chasis it it definatelty works very well!! cheers

  5. Mine does this, as well as the clunk on slow left turns (2007 KXR) I have mentioned it at every service, and got the usual 'we were unable to find it'. They are going to change the intermediate steering shaft at the next service, under warranty (has now just run out)!!! Finally!!! They still claim that the loud clunk when reversing is just the brake calipers releasing, so will be interesting to see if the replacement intermediate steering shaft also makes any difference to this. Anyone that has this clunk on slow turns needs to keep onto them, as they will only replace if you really whinge. Will report back with results.
  6. Alot of manufacturers started doing this, as it's a sneaky help with fuel economy. Alot of reviewers, magazines, governments offices etc were only going off the vehicles speedo when calculating economy figures. i.e if they were checking highway fuel economy at 100km/h, since the vehicle was really only doing say 92 the economy appeared better then it was. Very sneaky;) Hopefully they have now woken up to this, and start using gps to measure indicated speed when doing the economy figures!
  7. I have never tried this - I will give it a go and let you know I know the GPS restarts remembering your destination when you turn the power off during a break in the trip etc. Thanks mate. I know that some systems require a full reboot/startup, where others won't lose anything if you are just doing an engine restart and whats on screen stays on screen. Same for instance if you had the radio or ipod screen up, pain if it reboots the whole unit just restarting engine. regards I checked this and the unit stays on when you restart the engine. Hi guys, Have received and installed my flyaudio unit (thanks for install guide Hado, and quick delivery George.) Overall an excellent unit, seems very high quality with great features. Just one thing that I was hoping for some help with. With my unit everytime you restart the car, it reboots the whole unit. (i.e has to run through the white Toyota logo, and restart whole unit even if you left the car on accessory). Seem's strange as the unit does stay on for a few moments when you switch the car off completely, so seem's like it is designed to not reboot the entire system if just starting the engine again from accesory position. Has this changed on the new unit's George, as Hado advised his unit didn't reboot from accessory. I just hooked it up as per Hado's guide, with just the plug and play cables. This is a major pain if you have the gps map running, as it then has to restart after the unit finishes it's reboot. I have double checked my connections, and settings in the unit but can't seem to find what the issue is. Any advice much appreciated:) Overall very happy with the unit. Screen is excellent in day driving and resist's sun much better then most unit's I have seen (though maybe just slightly too bright even in the dark position at night, but no biggie. It is bearable, and with night map running not an issue at all! The bluetooth, ipod, radio etc are all very very good. The unit is very high quality, and works very fast. If I could just work out the reboot issue when restarting the engine from accessory would be very very happy with this purchase. Cheers Edit: Just thought of one more thing. When I am in navigation mode with the radio playing, the radio doesn't stop when a direction is read out, or fade out. Meaning that to make the directions loud enough I have to have the volume turned up heaps, or have trouble hearing directions. (I have igo8 volumes set as maximum!) Is this the way I have the igo8 sys setup, or is the unit responsible for muting/fading the radio? thanks again

    KX-R 17" Tyres

    2nd the Cooper CTS. Had Pirelli scorpion str's, but wore quickly (became much more vocal with wear also) and use to flat spot when parked overnight. Highly recommend the cts, very quiet, great grip and ride. Now if they last anywhere near their promised 70,000km's, will be very very happy.
  9. Hi mate, Fine for snow, sand, trails etc. The biggest limitation is the road orientated tyres. If you are likely to do your fair share of trails etc, fit some all terrian tyres. This will give a huge boost. The standard tyres really are purely for onroad use, and very prone to punctures etc when heading off the bitumen. Remember the kluger lacks the ground clearence and underbody protection for anything too serious. cheers and enjoy

  12. Hey, There is no advantage using 95 ron over the normal 91 in a car not tuned or designed to run on it. The higher octane rating only matters in cars that are designed/tuned to take advantage of this type of fuel. Despite all the hype,and posts saying there is a difference, it just doesn't work. The 98 high density fuels (the high density, not the octane rating is the important part here) such as BP ultimate and Shell V power will give you more km's per tank, and the superior engine cleaning additives. I have seen this all proven in a comprehensive university study. Don't waste your money on the 95 over 91, step up to the 98 if you want any difference i.e the extra km's per tank. You would then have to decide whether the extra km's per tank (and added cleaners) justify the price per tank difference. In my Kluger I would say it does. or very close anyway. Don't get me started on the ethanol blended fuels, NEVER think you are getting better value with these. cheers
  13. Doesn't surprise that Toyota want everyone to fit a genuine nudge bar. Would they encourage people to fit non genuine? These are not early American spec bags designed for low speed impacts where the occupants may not be wearing seatbelts (you don't have to some places in the states:) It takes a big hit to set your front airbags off, one that the cars management system deems could result in serious injury or death. It is an offence in Australia to disconnect or interfere with the operation of airbags, so therefore if these aftermarket ones do just that (which is highly doubtful) then the companies selling them are committing an offence. Regardless if you have a big enough hit to set the air bags off in a Kluger, these type of nudge bar will make little difference (unless you have a homemade 10 inch thick solid steel one etc;) These genuine and copies are very light alloy, and are after all merely a holder for your driving lights, and not designed for taking hits. Basically it is more of a concern to make sure that any full solid steel bullbar fitted to the kluger is compatible, as these are a completely diffent beast.!!!
  14. The rear sensors on my KXR are useless. They go off even with a light breeze. Seem way too sensitive or something. Ones on my wifes Ford Focus, and our previous Mitsubishi much better.

  17. Bascially both shell v power and bp ultimate are high density fuels, with higher end cleaning agents added. So you are right you won't get anymore power as the kluger is tuned for 91 octane, but you will see benefits in economy due to the higher density, and longterm benefits of a cleaner engine (guess that comes down to how long you plan on keeping the car). 95 premiums are not high density fuels, and probably don't have the superior cleaning agents that ultimate and v power use. So bascially with 95 you will only see a benefit over 91 if the car is tuned/made to run on 95. cheers
  18. Oh thats a bummer hey. Not to worry, thanks for letting us know. I really need a unit that will display name and number of incoming calls with iphone 3gs, so guess will have to wait for a future model. I am sure they are working on a fix with every 2nd phone being an iphone these days:) I think my parents garmin does phonebook transfer with their iphone so will check this and advise. Please keep us posted if anything changes plugnplay. Appreciate your (and others) help on the forum greatly. cheers
  19. Hi Plug n play, Can I just confirm that the new unit is NOT compatible with iphone 3gs for the bluetooth phonebook function. I have been trying to track down a unit that will allow incoming caller id (name and number) for iphone 3gs, and phonebook to make outgoing calls. I think you sent me an email a while back, but I must have accidently deleted it, and not sure if you were able to test this yet. cheers
  20. Excellent mate, appreciate the update. Last couple of things if you dont mind. Is there independant volume for different sources. For instance say you are listening to the radio at low volume and a call comes in through the bluetooth, will it come through at the same low volume, or can you have bluetooth volume set a bit louder? And can't remember if I asked this previously, but how does the lcd screen perform in daytime driving. I have seen some lcds in cars completely wash out even with non direct sunlight, while others handle sun and reflections much better. Same at night some dim nicely and dont distract, while others stay way to bright even with dimmer activated and annoy. Thanks again, much appreciated.

  22. Hi, Just a quick question Hado or George. If you stop the engine with gps map on screen, but leave power running in acc position (like at a service station etc) what happens when you restart the engine. Does the unit/gps have to completely reboot or is there a delay so you can just continue on with map still onscreen. Thanks
  23. hey mate, Have a read of first post. Drama is not the wheels or size, but the load rating for the tyres. If load rating on tyre placard is not complied with then not legal, and breaches insurance. This applies to the original 19 inch tyres if retro fitted to a kxr. Obviously if you fitted tyres that meet the load rating to the 19 inch rims then problem solved. That's if you can find tyres that meet this load rating in this already difficult size. Ridiculous I know. Cheers
  24. ConcurKX-S placard (on driver side door frame indicates max load rating must not be less than 875kg or have a load rating not less than 103 and and speed rating of not less than S). Well appears my mate was correct then. Makes a mockery of the tyre placard on the KXR, when the Altitude/KXS/GRANDE are all running lower load rated tyres. I wonder what Toyota's reasoning is for this. Is it purely to stop people fitting the higher spec wheels to their base model? If so pretty ordinary form. Won't stop people fitting them, might just get them a fine or knock back on an insurance claim though. I had a work colleague who did insurance work, and they specifically looked for little 'outs' like this. I wonder if any 19's in that size meet the KXR load rating. Would be surprised considering what a difficult size it already is!
  25. Hi, I was talking to a mate the other day and he was trying to tell me it is illegal to fit the original 19" rims and tyres from a KX-S or Grande, to a KXR. He said the problem is not the rims, as that is legal, but the load ratings for the tyres. I didn't believe him, and said this sounded ridiculous as it is exactly what Toyota do in the factory even with the KXR limited edition Altitude models. He then went on to explain that if you look at the tyre placard fitted to a KXR it states that the tyres fitted must have a load rating of not less then 107 or 975kg and a speed rating not less then S. This is apparently what decides if a tyre fitted is legal to Police, insurance, rta etc. He stated that the load rating for the tyres fitted to the 19" rims is only 103 or 875kg S and hence does not comply with the KXR's placard. I have confirmed the minimum 107 load rating on my KXR placard, but can someone who owns a grande or kxs confirm what their placard states please? This just seems plain stupid on toyota's part (anyone who works for Toyota or a Tyre place care to comment/explain?). I know many people have fitted the 19's to their KXR's, and I would hate for some cunning insurance company to pick this up if something goes wrong, and sneak out of a claim!!!! cheers
