  1. Let us know how the speakers go, you going to do all 6? I'm eager to get an amplifier put in but that will have to wait a bit unfortunately. Very keen to hear your results though! Also the HID installation, how much did you pay for that? I wanted to install HIDs on my car though unfortunately, I don't want any insurance repercussions in case i get in an accident because of the illegal nature of retrofits.
  2. That's a relief, every time i put my foot down im worried of damaging my engine. How often should the oil be changed? The oil only gets changed if Toyota does it when i service my car, otherwise i dont do it myself. What other parts could be damaged by driving it hard? And are there any other measures to prevent it from happening apart from the obvious.
  3. Hey guys, i was just wondering what the recommended RPM for the Aurion is, as in what is the limit i should go to without damaging the engine? My engine has only done about 1800kms so far so im still cautious with it, however i read in the manual to take it easy for the first 1000. In the first 1000kms my engine hardly saw anything past 3000rpm but lately ive been itching to press harder and harder down. Sometimes at traffic lights ill put my foot down quite a bit, usually to around 4000-4500rpm, now its common sense this probably isnt too good for my car anyway, but what is the safe limit i should keep the revs under? And also is 1000km enough to run the car in? Thanks!
  4. So it's probably safe to conclude that it is just a scam of some sort, probably not the best idea to send any money his way.
  5. In my opinion, do a REVs check now to answer a few of those questions you've been asking. $18 is a small price to pay for the kind of service it provides.
  6. Is it normal to get that streaky haze after putting RainX on? Or maybe my windows were just dirty.. Havent put it on the Aurion yet, but the Camry seems to have alot of streaking, which is a bit of an annoyance, but that car hasnt been washed in a century, although i did clean the windows before i put the RainX on
  7. I have seen TOO many cars with modifications like that around, there are a few around my suburb and they seem to have it on all the time so i doubt they've been done for it yet. But honestly, I personally wouldn't go that path because it just ruins the look of the car in my opinion. Audi have perfected it, it looks so damn good on their cars, but no other car (aside from the Porsches that Audi produce) has produced the same result. And even still, the Porsches look good, but the eyeliner LEDs should be standard on all Audis.. the ones that i see without the eyeliner just arent the same!
  8. Id be pretty damn scared of getting sucked out the top at that speed with the top off!
  9. Ouch, that sucks.. whats worse is that someone i know had his P plates displayed upside down which equated to a $200 fine and 2 demerit points for obstructing the view or something. Whats stupid is I've had other friends pulled over with NO plates on and they just got a warning, but putting a plate upside down caused him to lose his license cos it was his last 2 points. Ive started to notice a lot of cars driving with high beams on all the time, either that or it might be cos they are 4wd and their lights are a lot higher, cos i get a massive amount of light in my mirrors occasionally when there's a 4wd behind me, not sure whether it is high beam or what.. might be cos of the reflector lenses they use, it is so bloody irritating but fog lights have never really bothered me too much, here in Sydney most of the cars that have fog lights turn them on
  10. The idea of those tweeters are so you can install 2 pairs of 6.5 or 6x9's and also a set of tweeters for the sound quality. To answer your question, if its just the factory tweeters there will be a loss in sound quality though not as much as if they were aftermarket. Generally the standalone tweeters are richer in sound than those that come connected to speakers. I recommend leaving them in for better sound quality, but it comes down to the proper tuning you have to do to achieve it.
  11. Okay i got it installed, its not a bad unit for $1200, and i can confirm that you DO NOT need an aftermarket control box for the steering wheel controls, they work straight from the head unit. Probably not relevant anymore considering the new Eclipse unit is out, but it'll probably be some time before you see the prices drop. Overall im quite happy with this install, not sure about the sub control and those sound settings yet as i am yet to install my subwoofer.. Will probably get that done in a couple of months once i buy a suitable amp as well.
  12. Okay, well I went to the workshop of the store i bought the head unit from, the actual installer said he hasnt done the Aurion before but he knows that the Eclipse units work with MOST Toyotas, although he did say it doesnt ALWAYS work, so i think things are looking good.. He is charging me $150 for an install which will take 2-4 hours (does it actually take that long?) So ill let you know the news tomorrow.. hopefully all goes well considering it should work as others have said, otherwise ill get him to ground the pink cable so at least my trip computer isnt gone.
  13. Well see, you've already purchased the AVN-6000. How about waiting till it arrives before jumping to a conclusion. You already bought it anyway, so you may as well be the one to confirm whether it works. As above, the install manual says that it wires directly into the steering wheel controls, so I guess Eclipse themselves are incorrect then. When Phil from Northfield Macgregor demo it to me, he controls the volume from the steering wheel and also he say it is plug and play without any additional steering wheel control thingy needed.. so djc i don't think you need to worry too much about it... Yeah after doing some research on different types of Eclipse units on Toyota vehicles it seems that they are able to salvage controls, however there are a few wires that need to be connected and then grounded for that to work, now it may be that the installers that i am purchasing from dont know this, or dont know how to do it, so being incompetent myself, i will have to head around and ask a few different installers. I wish i had access to a Northfield but unfortunately i live in Sydney.
  14. Thats exactly what i was thinking, but didnt post because i couldnt find the thread.. Yeah im pretty sure there was someone asking for some assistance earlier and took some photos of his dash and it happened to be 001..
  15. After sending a PM to dannywss who owns this unit, apparently there are NO audio controls if you install the unit without the PAC unit required to salvage controls. Now I'm really confused, I thought it was established that AVN-6000 was compatible with the Aurion's wheel control, it appears to be acknowledged along with the Auspack unit, however now I honestly don't know what's going on. I really cannot see myself spending and odd $300 to purchase and install the PAC unit, however i am incapable of grounding the DISP function wire because i am clueless.
  16. It is an audio sale in Sydney, www.lifestylestore.com.au though it ends tomorrow.. Ended up buying the AVN-6000 despite them telling me theres no steering wheel audio control box in the unit.
  17. I went to a car audio sale today, the guy there was trying to sell me the latest Eclipse avn762ea saying it is plug and play with the Aurion, can anyone confirm this? I would usually believe him but he also said that the AVN-6000 does not have a steering wheel control unit in it, saying he had a lot of experience with that head unit, which goes against what ive read on this forum, the AVN-6000 being one of the two units (the other being Auspacks) that allows you to retain wheel controls. The price he was giving me for the 762 was $1700 and a ex-demo AVN-6000 for $1200
  18. Yeah its nice to look at, but i dont know if youd want to be driving around in it. On another note, that front window tint looks too dark to be legal..
  19. Have you taken into account the fees for the changeover of registration as well as the REVS check and maybe even for a mechanic to come have a look at it. You probably wont need a mechanic for such a new car though you cant get past the registration fee and you definitely shouldnt look past the REVS check.
  20. Yeah, im looking for a single unit with integrated functionality, there's not really much point in me buying a cheapy head unit then another $300 for the PAC-SWI to be installed. Having a look around now. Let me know how the speaker install goes Dave, I'm also looking at a pair of Soundstream or MTX speakers, just worried about the fit..
  21. So the Alpine unit allows you to keep controls? Im still shopping around for a head unit that will allow me to retain controls, I only know of the Eclipse AVN-6000 and the Auspac one
  22. I reckon a white sportivo with black rims looks sweet, the black highlights of the bodykit give the contrast which just looks so damn good on white
  23. The actual leeway in NSW is a bit iffy, some people say 10%, some people say the same 3km/h as in Victoria, some people say other things - it's not exactly a hard and fast number, but the cops _do_ give leeway. In any case the speedo of your car isn't completely accurate, it usually shows 5-10% faster than you're actually driving, so even if the needle is around the 100 mark, chances are you're doing a bit less. The cops will also give a bit of leeway because when they were using the WRX police cars, they found that the speedos on that were showing 5-10% LESS than the actual speed they were traveling.
  24. Is the alarm supposed to be an extra? Because mine came with an alarm as standard When i press the pink button the car will start horning and flashing, Im guessing that is what will also happen if someone attempts to break into my car
