  1. Smells hot to me. would be a good pickup for not much more than that though
  2. Don't cheap out on anything, it may be regrettable in the future. Power is getting up there though.

    Jap's TRD Hilux

Apparently thats all you can hear outside the car :D I'll have a fiddle with the exhaust, should change that. It's still mostly stock
  4. 1GR comes with a nice factory supercharger kit though That it does. There are a few more kits for it out there, as well. I'm sure that in a lighter platform, with a manual box behind it, a 1GR with stock boost levels would be great fun! Getting away from the original question though. I do believe it has been answered? lol I'm interested to see how this project goes :D
  5. With stock compression, the 1GR doesn't like much more than 10psi extra on a day to day basis. I've heard of guys pushing it to 14psi and some using 10psi with 50 or 75hp worth of nitrous as well, but its a risky game. The 5VR (i think thats it?) V6 that came before the 1GR is a much more boost-friendly engine, there are some getting around the States with over 600hp. Wasn't Peter Kittle's Finke Buggy running a twin turbo'ed Camry V6?
  6. Thats a long way for a gear drive and off hand i cannot see enough benefits to outweigh the downsides. Certainly strong engines, do they have the open-style deck like the 1GR's do? I'd be looking for boost. Filtration is easier to engineer to an application
  7. Wouldnt have a clue about your question, but welcome! Go to 'Members Rides' and throw some pics up of your hilux
  8. Don't get too excited til you get some particulars, boys. I honestly don't like it. Sounds too gutted.

Ha ha! Thanks for the comments, people. I'm keen to hear from/talk to other TRD Hilux owners :D
  10. We're not all 'average schmucks' as you so imply ;)
  11. I've enjoyed reading the replies, the logic here is not beyond me. Whether it makes my hilux quicker or not, I enjoy the driving experience. That is worth my money, it is no different to putting on a set of seatcovers, I may think they feel great, others not so much. If you think the sprintbooster is a waste of money, then so be it. No one is forcing your hand. I understand Djkor is stating his opinion and thats what forums are about. I get the feeling this is getting heated, but it is for no reason. We are here to enjoy our cars, lets do it.
  12. I agree with you. Now lets put throttle de-tuning into the mix. I have it from a reliable source that the TRD (Hilux at least) had throttle opening times 'retarded', for want of a better word. There are obviously ways, means and gadgetry to test whether the sprintbooster is actually doing anything in this regard.
  13. Is it possible that the sprintbooster provides faster throttle actuation? As I hear you telling me that what I'm feeling isn't actually happening, thats kind of like getting your palms read over the phone :D
  14. Safety is everyones concern, whether they have first hand experience in the matter or not. I've had a lot of towing experience, one major spill so far. You're correct in saying no vehicle is infallible. If you're a caravanner and you do the speed limit or close to, you got my vote :)
  15. I will have results on paper come October, when I test at the dragstrip. I was sceptical of the sprintbooster, I had nearly bought one months ago, but decided to do some other mods. Finally bought one and put it in, I can notice the difference. The people who are saying that they are no good, have you ever driven a vehicle equipped with one or equivalent? I know full well that these do NOT change outright power figures, I never expected that, but the throttle response is great. If you would not spend $400 on one, then that is up to you. But the question in the first post IS "Has anyone fitted one of these to their car"...obviously there a few who haven't :D

  18. I see some very underpowered and poorly setup vehicles pulling large vans come through town. Makes me fear for them as a decent crosswind will spell the end of their happy days. Get a car that can tow what you want, safely. If your Rav can do it, then good luck to you, but if your 4 cylinder struggles, maybe that is telling you something.
  19. I sucked a small car into my intake* Then I did a wheelstand down the road* Then took it home and washed it* *Only one of these is true and correct.
  20. Put a factory supercharged V6 in it. F**k the oil burners lol EDIT: Oh yeah, this will get moved more than likely ha ha
