  1. Justin 105, Ouch, i checked out the thread. Props to the rolla for withstanding it though! That's actually one of the reasons i got mine, 4 star crash rating from something not exactly new and very affordable. Yep, still can't believe how well it handles. From what i can see, the shocks, springs and bars are oem units but feels quite firm and the car doesn't roll too much at all. It's got crummy falken tires on atm though so might not be giving enough grip to produce bad body roll. cme-lft, Yep, defintely easy to drive. Much better than my old daily (a 20yo camry that refused to die lol). It's kinda sad..i enjoy driving the rolla more than my weekender haha =/ 123r-prozak, I'd love to have the sportivo version but can't afford it atm as i'm expecting a little one november :), hence also why i said i'd love to mod it but not the right time atm. Would love to do intake/full ex/igntion/piggyback, springs/shocks/sways, japo rims/uhp tires..
  2. Bought a rolla last week and am loving it! Immac interior, alpine system, has skirts and front lip and low kays. Been wanting to own a rolla since i got my licence and finally have one lol. Though i originally wanted an sx/gti or sportivo.. still, the 1.8l 7afe has awesome torque. For some reason, the car handles really really well and seems to be damn quick for a 1.8l with no vari cam/lift. Oddles of low down torque and pulls straight to redline. Maybe it's not stock.. i found a k&n panel filter after purchase haha. Would love to make it even quicker but not the right time atm. Anyways, here's a pic Might try and join a few cruises sometime down the track cheers guys!
  3. Sure it's not the increased effect of lift due to SRI making low end seem laggy ?
  4. That's a bit lame though, you'd imagine it to work as you've paid for the damn car and it's not like you're shifting on the rev-limiter *shrug*. If i had a stivo, shift problems would ***** me off majorly...may as well get an auto. Fwiw, my old fto never had problems going into any gear, even at 8200rpms and quickshift to next gear.. And that's using a 10+year old gearbox.. If a mitsubishi can do it (and we all know in terms of general quality etc Honda>Mitsu), i don't see why Honda or Toyota can't get it right.
  5. Looks good, time to reduce the weight as i mentioned earlier.
  6. 110kw atw ain't bad. More importantly, what was torque figure and the torque curve like ? That's what an s/c'd engine's sweet spot would be, along with throttle response if the piping and i/c is suited. Imho that's a pretty good increase ? I'm guessing you have the 1zz-fe right ? Looking through various 1zz dynos, seems a lightly modded 1zz puts out around 80kw atw...that's still 20 kw atw increase along with a fair bit more torque. My ae101 4a-gze gave 120kw atw with a manny trans. That's with a larger pulley, fmic, and enclosed pod. Recently did full exhaust, probably around low 130 now, but the torque is the fun part. 4 bangers with an s/c generally won't give you a crazy top end whack. Reduce the weight if you can, you'll feel that :)
  7. Rolla94, Here's the sound clip. Almost every car i've heard with a pod has the hissing in the sound clip. Some louder than others depending on engine. http://members.optusnet.com.au/darkdevourer/hiss It's not very loud so you'll need to turn the volume up a bit sorry.
  8. Really ?? Weird, FI cars tend to suck like crazy. A friend's wrx with APS cai system...around 3-4k rpms, the sucking is louder than his exhaust in cabin. With my rolla, you can hear the sucking somewhat (boxed off pod) but once the rpms climb, the s/c sound takes over =/ sounds weird to be honest. I hear hi-cam everyday in my mivec haha, so fun. That celica sounds not bad, for some reason though, i think stivo's sound better ??? Must be different exhaust and length etc. I've heard the "lift kicked in y0" clips on youtube, and the 2zz in high cam sounds fantastic! Heard Daz lift past me a few times too lol. (sidenote: i've heard lift and vtec from a teggy S from a street away, 2zz sounds much better to my ears). Rolla94, Any luck yet bud ? Sorry, didn't get a chance to get a sound clip of my cai tonight though, i'll try tomorrow.
  9. Have a listen to a turbo or supercharged car with a CAI next time, as their FI nature amplifies what an n/a motor with CAI and pod would sound like. But i guess it sounds different to everyone due to different meanings attached to words and different setups, ears and likes! I'll see if i can get a soundclip happening later tonight. Lol @ TOCAU's definition of lift.
  10. The setup looks fine =/. The only things i can think of is if it the alu. pipe is knocking against something, or as you said, it could be rubbing against the t/b. Can you install the pod straight off the t/b and see if you get the same noises. Or another option would be custom making another setup that involves somewhat sealing off the pod filter with a cold air feed to it. Less chance of getting defected and you'll get much better performance than just sucking hot engine air. It should definitely only be a sucking noise though. Suprathai, Sounds like an exhaust ? i don't think it's meant to sound like that ? Should only be hissing. No i havn't heard CAI with lift but when lift engages though. The hissing should only get stronger as the engine would be taking more air in. I've got mivec (variable valve timing and lift on both cams) along with cai, and it hisses only.
  11. Used to run a a 4a-fe with a pod. Was connected to TB with a silicon hose bit in the middle. It didn't make any exhaust noises though o.0 ! Just a typical pod sucking noise more like. Do you have a pic of this intake pipe ? Not likely the problem, but you never know =/ a clean filter also produces a different noise (depending on how hard your engine sucks).
  12. Yeap pretty pointless comparing the two in terms of overall better car. Each car serves each situation differently, comes down to who is going to buy and drive it imho. Impossible trying to tell a mass of ppl one car is better than the other car. How can you account for the million different variables of your mass of ppl... If you're telling yourself one car is better than the other then sure, that works! Obviously one is going to suit you better than the other, hence meaning it's superior to the other for YOU.
  13. If the driver of the dc2r was any good, would've left the stivo, provided they were both stock or similar mods/power. Stock stivo should beat a stock vti-r though. 4A-GZE's are fun! Better make sure it has an lsd though, especially of you're going to mod it.
  14. That's a bit harsh...stock car and not speeding. I'd fight it too.
  15. Thanks Kecho, i'll keep an eye on the lower joints then. Actually atm, there's some weird noises coming at certain speeds from the suspension i think. Could be the lower joint haha. Looking good btw, nice car!

  17. I ran them in my old 4a-fe engine and also the current one. Made a difference in the 4a-fe, not sure on current engine though as the workshop popped them on before we ever got a chance to drive it with the factory leads. Didn't seem to really accelerate spark plug wear.
  18. Seems the rolla one is crap and might be worth it to spend a bit more on a name brand one from everyone elses reponses. The one my uncle got was a direct copy of an sti one so it seemed good, it braced the towers and had extra braces leading to the firewall too. The one i got is for an fto and looking at the design of it, it seems direct and effective. Certainly made a huge difference for my car during sweepers. My rolla uses a pedders one and that's fantastic but if you're after a name brand one that ain't too expensive, try cusco maybe ? GL hehe
  19. I got a strut bar from that same seller (not for a rolla though) and it works fine imho. Made a fair bit of difference. My uncle also got one from that seller too (RS Impreza) and he said it made alot of difference for him.
  20. Low 15's...out of a 1.6L n/a engine, definitely nothing to be sneezed at. Yup the blacktops are fantastic (silvertops too for that matter). Jaze55, The levin is an import. The Ae111 pictured here runs a 20valve 4a-ge engine producing around 125kw (figures vary from everywhere it seems). As expected from a high outputting na engine, it's gotta be driven highish in the rpms to move quickly though. Hey Kecho...the superstrut isn't that bad is it ?? I recently got my corolla converted to superstrut suspension and it handles pretty well ? Might hang onto the previous setup if the superstrut is known to give problems
  21. Very nice car mate. When i was first shopping around for cars, the ae111 was on my shortlist too!
  22. With that engine, i myself would probably go for 2.25". Those engines have no torque down below anyways, and it sounds like you'll be modding it fairly seriously... so 2.25" would be nice to have, for the high rpms you'll be running the engine at. edit - Have a look at the x-force stuff... it's not very pricey but the quality is actually quite good. They've got several styles of mufflers too, if you're not after heaps of noise, perhaps 2.25 mandrel bent exhaust, high flow resonator and twin loop muffler ? My $0.02 ;)
  23. Ahh didn't know about a possible rule regarding pre 89 cars running with no cat. No idea myself... What engine are you running ? It makes alot of difference if we know. Eg. i would not want to be running a 2" exhaust for a 3s-ge. 2" for a 4a-ge would be ok though, if you weren't planning to cam the bugger etc for high revs.
  24. Does anyone have an at the wheels figure for a stock Sportivo? As per Silvabullit's post. mid 90's atw stock sounds pretty good. Alot of fwd cars, just multiply the flywheel kw by 0.7 for a rough atw kw figure. Bear in mind some dynos read a bit higher (optimistic dynos) but i guess it's all relative huh. Nice Silvabullit, good how the 2zz is so responsive to mods yet is tuned high from the factory.
