    Sounds like a good idea to me, might need somewhere bigger than the Schnitzelhaus this time though (unless Duy feels like coming up again to get locked in the underground carpark)

  3. Vipzr6, this is something I haven't found out yet (hasn't rained in months). The pod is positioned pretty much directly behind the foglight, whereas the area I cut out is inboard of the foglight so should be ok. It will get some moisture in wet weather but shouldn't be too much. Definitely no water crossings of more than 4 inches though (and even then, very slowly). Only other solution I could find was a "water bypass valve" which seems to be a higher restriction filter element mounted in the inlet tube further up in the engine bay. This will only work of the pod is fully submerged though. Also there is a waterproof bag that can be tied over the pod available. Don't know how much restriction it would add. I'm all ears if anyone has any ideas.

    I've got a pod filter in a similar location in the AE102 and I've never had any dramas with water etc, and I've had it on for a good 100,000km. Just don't be an idiot driving through lakes and you'll be fine. Everyone gets really antsy about low-mounted pod filters but at the end of the day you'd have to completely submerge the filter before you started sucking up any meaningful amount of water which would be a level probably halfway up your front bumper, at which point water would be coming in your doors....

  4. so basically what your saying is the only right way to do this is to replace the ECU?

    Don't bother unless you have a lot of extra work done to the engine too - mate had the exact same model 7AFE as me, same mods (I took his exhaust and intake when he parted his car out) except he had a shaved head and eManage piggyback ECU and only put out ~6kw more at the wheels, despite several thousand dollars worth of work.

    In short, in these cars the best performance upgrades come from handling mods until you look at turbos or swapping in a 4AGE or 3S engine

  5. stick with genuine Toyota oil !!Go to Toyota dealership parts buy the oil ( the oil in red color) :) you need two bottles ~

    Don't listen to this advice, it is wrong. He is trying to get you to buy automatic transmission oil.

    There are many manual transmission oils an 75W-90 would be fine. Toyota Genuine manual transmission oil is fine, or this(which I have used and am more than happy to recommend):

    ST204 Celicas and SW20 non-turbo MR2s come to mind...probably the same S5x gearbox though.

  7. So will the SRC still exist as a separate entity just with shared forum resources (ie SRC events/sections etc) or will all SRC members essentially just become TOCAU members, maybe with a section of archived SRC content?

    In a similar vein, what will be the go with moderation? Existing SRC mods absorbed into the TOCAU mod pool, separete SRC mods for specific SRC sections, or just retain the existing TOCAU mods?

    Just curious as to how this merge will be laid out, can only mean good things for forum numbers and turnouts to meets :D

    The traditional accommodation for Nationals is the Matilda Motor Inn, they reserve large chunks of the motel for Nationals entrants (if you ring up and try and book as an ordinary tourist they will say that they are full) plus provide security in the carpark as well as extra parking for the trailer queens. This tends to book out quite early though (a lot of people book a year in advance), so if we want to stay in a big group I suggest either getting in to the Matilda early or finding somewhere else.

    Yeah I miss it sometimes, something small and chuckable.... my current daily is a mk6 Golf which is nice but about 250kgs heavier and the low rolling resistance 15" tyres aren't the last word in grip haha. Chaser puts a bigger smile on your face when you have the room to wind out the gears. Eastern Creek in 2 weeks!

    Still got mine, and I get the same feelings when driving the wife's Snoarer too - just sooooo easy to be cruising along in 5th and suddenly be doing 150km/h (no officer I would never think of speeding, sir)...that and the ability to chirp 1st through to 4th if you really want to...

  10. The wear looks like fairly heavy piston slap. The carbon could be from a rich running engine, or poor quality fuel being used over a period of time.

    It wouldn't hurt to have the crank crack-tested as well, especially since that bearing has let go.

    Being a car in Japan - you would think they would run 100 octane through this. But your definitely right about the car running rich. It was definitely running rich and apparently toyota do that at factory as a safeguard if you like.

    Yep, Toyota love to run their turbo engines uber-rich up top...

  11. ODO tampering does still goes on seen it on the news ,current affairs a couple of times ,a 2001 done 50- 60 KMS is hard to believe ,my camry is 2007 and it's done 160,000 kms ,i bought it when it was 75,000 kms ,i only drive in NSW

    so you do the math average is 20,000 KMS 25,000 KMS a year .

    Odo tampering in Australia is a completely different story to Japan. Remember, most Japanese people keep their cars for a couple of years and then sell them because the cost of rego gets too high, this is why places like Australia imports a large number of ~10yo cars. Also, 200,000km is nothing for an Australian car but a lot for a Japanese one - Honshu (the main island) is basically the size of Australia from Brisbane to Melbourne and inland to the Great Dividing range, and yet they cram 103 million people onto that island and 2 of the top 10 largest metropolitan areas in the world, so public transport is rife and you rarely need to drive a car long distances.
