  1. yes it does save fuel only when u do it when as soon as the light turns red, or orange. if u do it every so often the shift between n and d for short instances will not save fuel, it will do the reverse, as placing it in2 N will place a predetermined amount of fuel to stop the engine from stalling. so of course if u stop @ the lights and see that it will go green in 10secs time, then placing in2 N and then D will not save any fuel. i must point out that the main reason to placing your car in N is to save enginebay wear. When in D (air-cond off), it means the auto transmission is engaged and the car will slowly move forward. If you step on the brake to stop it from moving forward (accelerator is not depressed) the car is wanting to move forward, thus vibration occurs. Think of the situation as follows: 1. While waiting at traffic lights and the auto is in D, you need to step on the brake to prevent the car moving forward (brake lights on). The car wants to move forward and you stop it from doing so, vibration occurs which in time to come, something will get loose too. Lower enigne rpm means (says below 600 rpm) engine vibration. Most of us will step on the brake while in D in standstill, NOT GOOD. 2. While waiting at traffic light and the auto is in N , you probably still need to step on the brake to prevent the car from sliding forward or backward. You dont get vibration at all because the auto is not engaged and there is no drop in rpm. No vibratin means your enigne and transmission last longer. wonder why old cars vibrate like hell when @ the lights in D? theres your answer. usually u get the low vibrating sound coming out of everywhere. if want 2 preserve your car u should place it in2 N on long standstills. if u were driving a manual, u would place it in2 N rather that leaving it in 1st gear. same thing with autos. how to test for engine bay wear? just accelerate hard, and if your dash, steering or both elements vibrate then u should replace your mounts or get a mech to inspect what is wrong. EDIT: or balance your tyres
  2. lol. this one of the most interesting threads ive come across. i reckon it should deserve a prize hehe u got a dude in ps thinking their pro, whilst a sorry case of minority - a toyota lemon! i have been driving & own toyotas all my life (sad i know) and usually i would classify them as a lemon when they are 300,000kms or above. european cars may be more "reliable" and perhaps retain a better residual value, but we're talking about the exy euros like bmw and merc - most of them are thirsty anyway! dont get me started on vw's. i know 5 owners of golf and passat vehicles just randomly stalling whilst driving (even on autos <_< ), all of whom purchased their cars from 5 different dealers. re the toyota lemon, blueaurion mate i really dont know what your options are. though i really dont like to watch TT & ACA, i always seem to be up to date with the lemon car stories. that chick with the lemon vw beetle and another with a holden got new cars, but had to pay $5000 more. thats only after going to the media and getting aca to chase them. i think its also harder in your case because everyone knows that toyotas are reliable (or at least retain the lowest external failure ratio) this problem of random unreliability is not "uncommon" though. i know 2 production blocks of camry sportivo and aletza out of the vic plant that are plagued with problems. unfortunately one of them has claimed another friend of mine. till this day its only those 2 blocks of camry. Buri_ZR6, i dont know how old u are, but to me u sound like a stereotypical p plater i come across every freakin day of my life, with cars that cost more than they can ever afford, and drive to prove their "status" on the rd. i throw rotten eggs at them whenever they cut me off. (nxt time if u see a guy in a camry throwing eggs, PM ME ) plz prove me wrong and just do the sensible thing, DRIVE responsibly.
  3. i wouldnt use a touch up pen just yet. what colour is it, if it is not white, black, red, yellow (lol) then it would prolli be metallic paint. then it would have a clear coat. though it is deep enough of your finger to get stuck upon, i would use some detailing products. though this might not always be the "most" economical way, it beats applying touchup paint to your clear coat. and by the next 5washes your scratch will just reappear again, defeating the purpose of "touching" it up. i would use some form of small abrasive application. the common one i use is meguiar's scratch x. if u refer to this link, u can see the before and after fotos of this guys scratch, and how he got rid of it using scratch x. i must warn u, u need alot of time and patience. and before u do anything, u need the knowledge of how to use the product. if u love your car heaps and do it properly, then id expect results http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/thread/48666.aspx the guy took a long long time to level down the clear coat and did it over 5 applications of scratch x. hope this helps. if u want to go this way then just let me know and i will find the links to the threads on how to properly remove it with this product. cheers

    good looking rim

dang...it looks "dark blue" on 3 of my monitors - i use tri screen setup....sooo haha..? though gotta admit, 3rd gen camrys in black look a lil weird if not done up. see so mani in the states, stock, looks weird with hub caps and all.
  5. though it is a great sign, that an economical car just got a whole lot more economical, the government will only help out in the smallest way possible, either that or they will say they are helping out just to tally up more votes for the election to show their "concern" for global warming. quite frankly, most governments dont give a rats a$$ about global warming. if governments were truly devoted to GW we would have stopped being so dependent on fossil fuels a long long time ago. numerous university faculty members recently wrote thesis's re anti gravity/matter technology, and how we can travel without the use of fossil fuels, using highly charged electron-energy (something like that) to get from a to b. governments are keeping the "technology" secret inorder to fuel the rich bastards and their oils - those pricks. opps.....perhaps a wrong direction in this topic...lol...

    good looking rim

well i purchased these rims from ebay. they have i think 2 more sets (of 4), they are from ballarat toyota. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TOYOTA-CAMRY-ALLOY-...1QQcmdZViewItem i also superimposed these alloys using a screen dump of bobjanes, and fotoshop to the camry, just to see how they would look like. these are relatively "cheap" but they are not racing wheels. they are however genuine toyota wheels, and they are new.
  8. wow dude nice one! i wish there were more camry-ers in vic with rides like yours! nice *****! (your car) welcome 2 the forum mate

  11. hello, just wondering if anyone here has a 1998-2002 camry and is running on 16's? kinda curious re the tyre size you have chosen. ive got the tyre size options from the trusty tyre calculator, but would like to know first hand what size rubber are you on, and the brand of the rubber chosen. the stock rubber for the 98-02camrys are 205/65/15. my safest choice on 16's are 215/55/16 but currently alot of them are made by michelin pilot...kinda too expensive for my wallet. cheers!
  12. very very much so on how much u drive! and whether or not your camry is financed. if u click on this link it will show u racv's assessment of camrys and their cost. u can also find other cars in that link. however that link add the cost of financing the camry. many of us might not have the car on finance. i dont have it on finance so i find that the average weekly cost of $193 is a tad inflated. its probably close to $90 or $100max, which means around 5k per year. if u do the basic oil and oil filter changes it will drop to 3k-4k a year, thats if u travel around 10-15000kms

    Tuners

yea it is quite an easy job. however when i replaced mine, i found 3 plugs connecting into my original toyota fugiten (its the dual deck one with cd player and cassette) i found out that 1 was for the power and front 4 speakers (the front components tweeter and bass) and 1 was for the rear 6x9's and power antenna. the remaining one i have NO IDEA. my head unit only has space for 2 plugs. could it be security of some sort? ive installed and the car is normal, been driving for around 2mths. so i still dont know what that last plug is for.m anyone an expert here?

  15. i reckon. seriously. think of how much you can do with $8.5k and MORE. i can think of a million things
  16. my 2nd gen sv21 had a $1500 repair bill alone, and it was from the cheapest mechanic i found. all that use to numerous engine leaks and powersteering leaks. id say...use that money wisely so NO would be my answer.

  20. hi all, im sure meguiars is one of them brands that people typically use, or start off with. well repco as the next gen gift pack for $25. yes $25. thats freakin insane. i already have a bottle of next gen wax but for $25 i just had to buy another. in the gift pack (usually sold from autobarn for $55) contains: x1 bottle nxt gen liquid wax (with an applicator) - $42 separately x1 bottle nxt gen car wash (though water restrictions, usefully for use in tight spots or specific panels) - $32 separately x1 aerosol nxt gen insane tyre shine - $20+ separately? 4got either way for $25 its worthy of a gift pack. i purchased mine @ Repco Doveton (in Victoria), they only had 3 bags left. should check stock of other repco stores. happy detailing ! EDIT: did i also mention u get a useful bag? lol

    My '95 Camry

mmmm are them rims from bobjane? quake rims or something? they look pretti good. what rubber size do u have fitted on them?
  24. ZOMG!!! i peeled just a little bit of the strip on the drivers side, only for it to reveal a hole for a plastic pinhead to sit in. however, the strip isnt held 2 the door by a screw in the hole, its so freakin strange and annoying. kinda like a cylindrical shape being fitted to a square hole (as supposed to a circle hole) painting it looks like the go.
