  1. Thought I might revive this. As some may know, I added fog lights to my Ascent ZRE. They look great but they are bright white in colour, as opposed to the headlights which were more yellow. I ordered new headlight bulbs, and they arrived today. Installed them no problem. Great, the lights are the same colour :D. Except: The parkers are still a yellow, which is even more pronounced now - against the bright white of the headlights. So, does anyone know the type of bulb that are the parkers. I'll go out to the car in about 10mins to check the book, but thought I'd ask here anyway :P. Secondly, when is the next meet in NSW where I might be able to get someone to give me a hand. It looks really really tight in there.. Pete mentioned a monthly meet that happens somewhere, just want to know where/when that is.
  2. The guy who installed the lights was me :P. As for the relay/wire to the switch, I left the car with the guy for an hour and it was done when I got back. The switch goes down onto the panel near the mirror controls. You should see 2 or 3 blanks there.
  3. $160 for the kit $168 for 2 shrouds $70 for install So, $398. Cheaper than Castle Hill at least. It's a shame that the kit is only for the sedan :(. Could have saved on the shrouds there. Lucky Shire.ZRE / Jalal :P
  4. Yep, Mars Performance fog lights on ebay are the right ones, all you need after that is the pair of shrouds as the ones in the kit are for the sedan. I didn't actually use the instruction book, though I do thank the rez and ken33f who sent it to me :D. I found it overly difficult to be honest :P Jack your car up, I put it on a hoist, but same deal. Underneath the front, on each side there is a cover held in with a set of 10mm bolts that you have to remove. One or two actually have a screwdriver fitting and are a little longer, so don't misplace them. Also there is a plastic clip you need to remove - I found it easy to do so with 2 flat screwdrivers. This is on each side, directly under the shroud. So, remove this cover. Behind the stock shroud is a little phillips head screw. You'll need a stubby screwdriver to get to this one - or else remove the plastic wheel arch. Once you've taken out that screw (on each side), use a bit of force and some directed pulling and pushing to get the shroud out. For the clips that don't let go, you can push them down from the inside now that you have removed the cover. The mars lights screw into your new shrouds (which are $84 each from Toyota btw) with three of the 8 supplied screws in the kit. You'll notice that the lights don't sit flush with the inside of the shroud - this is normal (at least on John's "Auris" and my uncle's Aurion) and must be to allow a little more air flow. These lights get daaaaaamn hot. Like a serious skin burn hot!. The plugs to go into the lights are already in the position, you just need to untape them from the inside of the bumper and plug them in. Put the cover back up and screw it back in. You're done with the front. Now the tricky part... And here's where I paid $70 to get it done properly. If you want to do it yourself, you need a relay. I've forgotten the part number - I got it from somewhere on here - hopefully someone can help :) Work out which plugs on the relay run to a switch, and splice the wires from there and run it over to where the switch will go - near the mirror controls. Solder it all up and you're done. The official book says to splice wires that go up into the steering column. I saw the bunch of wires there and immediately gave up. Waaay to hard :P. Also, you can skip the whole splicing thing and go with plug and play if you buy the official stalk from Toyota / A wrecker. I got quoted from Toyota near $180 and a wrecker $150. Then just follow the instructions in the DIY section on how to remove a yaris' steering wheel - but apply them to your zre! Oh, and btw, I've ordered whiter headlights to match the fog lights :P
  5. Well, hey, if you want to get rid of your old stock wheels.... :D
  6. Ok, finally! Had to sort out a decent way of uploading these photos to my site. Unfortunately the two panoramas that I took are too big for coppermine, but you can get them at the direct URLs below. 7. Great day people! Thanks be to Pete! I'm just touching up the photos for you guys, once I've done that I'll upload them in their full res glory.
  8. Oh nice, I like those headlights. Can you get them for the hatch?
  9. I'll be there for sure, but I'll meet you guys as you come through. If I meet wait at the entrance to the National Park, what time do you guys reckon you'll get down there? My number's 0434 26 38 98 if someone wants to message me the uhf channel we'll be using. Cheers.
  10. Haha damn you for the suspense! :P I'll be looking out for you now!
  11. Hm, anyone in Sydney/Wollongong feel like giving me a hand? I'm happy to drive where ever tomorrow. I pulled off all the covers tonight to have a look. Just hoping that I could just plug a cable in. Alas, no :(
  12. So how do you wire the push button? I've done everything else, but I got lost here :S. Read the toyota manual and it looks as though I have to splice something off the headlamp dippers :S
  13. haha yeah way too big, how about this for a nice bum? I love it! Group buy anyone? :D How much would that setup set us back?
  14. KEN33F and Rez were both kind enough to email me the guide from Toyota. My shrouds are ready and the light kit/relay should arrive monday. Going to be a big night monday night :P
  15. I might get those details off you if I can. Your auto electrician now obviously has some experience in the wiring for the corolla. My lights should arrive in the next few days :)
  16. I just pulled apart the centre console of my hatch. I see the space for the relay to go in. It's right underneath a metal brace. I don't quite know how I'm going to get there, but I will. I couldn't feel any wires leading into the back of that space though. Sure the pins were there, just like in the photo from the yaris diy guide, but I couldn't feel any wires. 'course I couldn't get my hand in there properly. Once I install that relay, where do the wires come from that go over to the fog light switch? Does anyone have this manual for aftermarket fog kits that KEN33F was talking about?
  17. Yep, that's the C-One ZRE strut brace indeed. Mate, now that you put it this way, it's enough re-assurance for me. Thanks a lot for the encouragement ;) Ordering now. Haha, now I'm hoping that it doesn't fit the sedan :P
  18. where you get the c-one from ? nengun ? how much all up ? i'm looking for a set of strut bars for my zre too.. havent found myself a sweet spot quite yet i got it from www.rmsmotorparts.com.au which is located in melb. it cost $350 AU shipped to aus but i had to go pick it up from the shop. goodluck with it! Contacted RMS about importing the C-One strut bar for my ZRE sedan, was quoted $320.00 (incl. delivery to Sydney). I asked them if they sold any of these strut bars to ZRE sedan owners and they replied saying they sold it to 3 ZRE owners (no mention of sedans). I asked them if I can return it in case it doesn't fit the sedan ZRE and was told I couldn't. What a dilemma :( I don't wanna waste over 300 bucks only to find out it doesn't fit and at the same I am wondering what difference could there be between the sedan and hatch ZRE when it comes to strut mounts. Can someone please re-assure me a little, so I can go a head and order one :)....don;t worry, I won't kill you if it doesn't fit LOL :) Is this the front strut brace? Positive it's for a ZRE model? If you want to order it, go for it! If it doesn't fit, I'll buy it off you. (I've got the hatch, as you probably know now :P)
  19. ohhh so you had a chip and u had a crack leading out of the chip by 30cm yea? Not exactly. I got a small chip in the windscreen from a truck that drove past me. We were both doing 100km/h, so the stone that hit me would've had some speed behind it. In any case, I got a guy to come and fix it for me. He injected a resin into the crack after drilling it out a bit. Then he put a suction cap like thing on it. Next thing we heard was a craaaack. The chip, which was about 15cm up, directly in the passenger's line of sight had blown into a crack which headed down to the bottom off the windscreen, and up about 15cm further. The window guy drilled out the end of the crack, and filled the whole thing with resin. It's been about 12 months now, and I haven't had it grow any further. :P Because I do a lot of highway driving, I chose not to get it replaced just yet. If it grows anymore, I'll definitely do it. I've been told that these corolla windscreens are under a lot of pressure when they're on the car, and the tiniest amount of pressure on a weakspot can cause exactly this.
  20. I was looking at getting a new windscreen because of a chip that had hit it and then cracked about 30cm up from the bottom on the passenger side. I ended up getting it repaired, but the cost of a new windscreen was around $220.
  21. Just ordered the relay myself, $10, and the kit, $168 both incl. postage. I know an auto electrician who has been great with me in the past - Quintin from Abel Auto Electrics in Taren Point - I'll ask him to install once I get the shroud off Ferguson's up at Hurstville.
  22. Just read this: http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/inde...mp;#entry330508 And, I also found that I'd have to buy the shroud from Toyota, as they differ between the hatch and sedan. About $77 each for those, plus the $170 for the kit makes it about $330. Plus this http://www.eziautoparts.com.au/relay-connectors-68082-.html (the relay) for like $10-15 posted (I assume)
  23. Cool, that looks like it's pretty easy :P Would you mind helping me out one day, when it comes to wiring it all up? Or did the electrician do all the work? Don't suppose you could let me know where you bought the kit? Cheers, Mitch
  24. Hey all. Thinking about adding the fog/driving lights to my 08 Ascent ZRE Hatch. 1) Anyone know what the going rate is to get them dealer installed? or 2) Anyone know the best way to buy the kit and install them yourself?
  25. OOoooh, Wow! Fantastic idea! I have the Hatch Ascent, and Toyota only did a half job on me too. I like this idea a lot! :P
