  1. I have noticed that my 2011 Touring (14 000klms) can seen a tad rough when idling. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions?
  2. What about something like this. Although they are for a Corolla. Fog lights with LED surrounds. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2010-2011-2012-TOYOTA-COROLLA-ODM-Fog-Lamp-108-SMD-LED-DRL-Cover-Kit-11-12-/150772009988?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item231ab64c04
  3. Last night, after stopping and filling up at the Petrol station I adjusted my tyre pressures. 37psi in the front and 39psi in the back. On Michelin XMV8 215//55 R17 tyres. I'm quite happy with the result. The ride feels more comfortable, the bounciness on decelleration at the lights feels markedly lessened. I think I will be sticking with this configuration. I'd be interested to hear from others that might try it.
  4. I was stopped behind a Presara at the lights on the way home tonight. At least a good third of the two mufflers are visible from the back of the car and have been painted black to compensate for this. The plastic cover to the rear bumper bar doesn't entend down as far as the previous models and makes the new model look kind of cheap.
  5. Yeah those Toyota covers look like they passed through the committee of Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and Andrea Bocelli.
  6. Interesting, I have typically had a couple of psi more in the front than in the rear tyres. Lately have been using 39 in the front and 37 in the back. I might try it the other way around and see what difference it makes.
  7. I was playing around with the sound and balance settings on my 2011 Touring (6 speakers); I swear it seemed like the speakers in the front doors and top of the dash were producing more and better bass than the rear speakers (allowing for distance)
  8. I took my 2011 Aurion Touring in for its first 9 month/15 000k service (the car had done 12,300 klms) A front and rear wheel alignment, wheel rotation and balance was also done ( cost $80 ) Today, I drove from the inner west of Melbourne to Warragul (and back) to visit a friend and noticed that when the steering was pointed dead ahead the car pulled to the left; or alternatively that in order to go straight ahead the steering wheel needed to be turned slightly to the right by say approximately 5 degrees, I hadn't noticed this prior to the service etc. By the sounds of earlier posts, is it worth taking it back to the dealership to try and get it rectified or am I better off looking to get it fixed properly with someone that knows what there are doing? Can anyone recommend a place to try in the inner West or inner North of Melbourne? Also, on the sticker for the next service they have shown as due for late Dec of 2012 and/or 20 000 klms. I assume this is because the car has done fairly low klms and they are assuming that it will continue to do so. I don't do alot of mileage; and have tended to average about 14 000 klms per year so I guess its not a bad idea to get it done then?
  9. Yeah, when I took my car in for its 15k service recently, I asked about the seat covers and got quoted around $195. Ha ! for that price I can pretty much buy a new pair of front seat covers from Supercheap every 2 - 3 years for close to a decade.
  10. Are the genuine ones easier to fit?
  11. After buying my 2011 Aurion Touring back in March I went and bought a set of front Car Seat Covers from Supercheap for around $50. The Car seat covers are of the ILANA brand and are from the "Deploy Safe" rage (Airbag Compatible) Well, today, despite the crappy Melbourne weather, I parked under the car port and tried to fit them. After over an hour of battling, cursing and contorting like some sort of performer from the Cirque Du Soleil, I managed to get one on. The Aurion seat is not an easy seat to fit as the base of the backrest is very close to the seat and there is a cover on the back of the seat as well. Part of the problem was the design of the car seat cover ties with two plastic D rings (on short strands) located where the back rest meets the seat and the longer strands are on end of the seat base. Even in its highest position, the underbody of the seat is still quite close to the floor. So, has anyone got any tips for my attempt to install the car seat cover to the passenger side? Can the covers located on the back, base part of the seat be easily removed and put back again? ( I wasn't game enough to try this ) Thanks in advance. Prom.
  12. Damn ..... Agreeee with you there 100%
  13. With the events relating to the Altona Toyota plant in the last few weeks, I wonder if it might be prudent to be wary of buying a car coming out of the factory in the next few months?
  14. I think this definitely an improvement and a bonus. The lack of fold down seats in the previous model is a significant drawback of me as I can't fit my pushbike in the boot (after taking off the front wheel) and the lockable ski port is almost pointless/useless unless you have something long and skinny to load in the boot. By the way, why did they make the ski port lockable anyway? The woodgrain trim is mehhhhhhhh. The ultimate test will be how the car looks on the road.
  15. I have found this too. The same tyre pressure in all the tyres makes the ride seem "bouncy", particulalry at lower speed and when decelerating.
  16. My tyres are 215/55 R17 - Michelin XMV8's Last night after having driven for 20 - 25 minutes, I pumped up my front tyres to 39psi and rears to 36psi. I will be re-checking the tyre pressures when they are cold (before having been driven) It's vital to check your tyre pressures at least once a fortnight and don't forget the spare tyre. You don't want to end up with a flat tyre, pull out the spare and find out that is flat too. The (car) manufacturers recommendations for tyre pressures tend to be biased for a comfortable ride and you are quite safe going up to 5psi more. The benefits of going up in psi being less rolling resistance = (slightly) improved fuel economy (well, in theory anyway) and better handling. It can make the ride a tad hasher, depending on the tyres and suspension setup of the car in question.
  17. Having recently gone from a 1996 2.2litre Camry which despite being slow by current standards managed to keep up with general traffic just fine to a 2011 Aurion Touring; my 5 cents worth is that the whole power output , acceleration argument/issue is a bit of a nonsense in most cases. Lets face it, speed cameras are everywhere. Most of the time even on the freeway you are limited to a paltry 100klm/hr. In general urban traffic you often barely get to tap into the power potential of your car as traffic congestion in the major cities gets worse every year while politicians and planners do sweet FA and scratch their balls. Sure its nice to have that power, acceleration and speed on tap but I'm not suprised that more and more people are downsizing to 2 litre - 4cylinder cars or 2 - 2.5 litre softroaders.
  18. Perhaps it's a bit of buyers remorse... I sometimes think I should have taken the car I bought for a longer test drive. I'm finding the suspension a bit "bouncy" particularly at lower speeds. (maybe this is a sign I'm getting old; though I did find a friend of a freinds Ford Failane (the final series) too floaty in ride when I was in it a while back. I guess it's to be expected with the 17 inch wheels and 215/55 profile tyres. (Michelins; XMV (from memory) Perhaps this will be better when the current tyres wear out and I go to something different? I'd imagine there isn't a whole lot I can do right now to make the ride a bit more cofortable. Lower the PSI in the tyres a bit? Your thoughts?
  19. The new 2012 Aurion is out in a few months so they will be discounting them heavily. I noticed that there were quite a few Ink Black ones around and these apparently were hard to shift due to the colour. Seems there aren't enough masochists around that want to maintain a black car. As my first mod, I am thinking of upgrading to a louder horn. Hehe. ;) Any suggestions or recommendations?
  20. I have been driving my Aurion for a couple of days now. Impressions. It looks great in Silver with alloy wheels and a spoiler. I'm a bit paranoid that it will get scratched. I'm enjoying the smoothness and the power (when I put the foot down), most of the time I am driving it sensibly and the fuel display has been showing around 10.5 l/100klms. I will also be doing manual calculations on the fuel economy. My old 1996 4cyl Camry (R.I.P.) used to average 11.5 l/100klms so if I get better than that I will be pretty happy. I'm getting used to the footbrake and would have liked a bigger removable ashtray/bin. Not that I smoke but for bits of paper or used tissues etc. (was used to this in the old Camry) Thankfull I haven't got any major or noticeable dashboard creaks. I pumped up the 215/55 R17 to 37 psi but might reduce it a tad to make the ride a bit more comfortable. Finally; the staff at Gary McMillan Toyota were great to deal with, so a small plug for them.
  21. What about detailing, particularly cleaning, waxing, polishing the outside? Does anyone get this done? If so, how often? I have heard good things about this guy http://reflection-perfection.com.au/ and plan on using his services.
  22. The ATX model has the "plain" dials for Tacho and Speed. That's one of the reasons I wanted a Touring model with the extra bells and whistles.
  23. Well, I got out today and ended up putting a deposit on a car. 2011 Aurion Touring, approx 9000klms,Silver colour, tinted windows, front slimline weather shields, headlight and bonnet protectors, four Aurion carpet mats, with around 4.5 months rego for $27,500. Took the car for a test drive, it seemed ok. It has a few minor scratches which the dealer has agreed to fix and the lid to the cup holder only opens to about 3/4ths, so they will be fixing that. I think I did ok price wise, could possibly have gone a couple of hundred lower, who knows. Will be picking up the car later this week.
  24. No need for a bed. With that many klms, he must be driving it in his sleep too.
