  1. yeah i agree with filing vista in the rubbish bin xp works fine for me....at the moment but im getting sick of all the little things our dearest billy gates does to snoop on us all.....no i dont want to send an error report to you bill sorry. im seriously looking at getting a mac system......no software "upgrades" not even a need for a firewall to surf the net as linux is harder to hack than a "windows" system. it doesnt crash you dont need to reinstall the os and best of all is when you buy it..its not out of date when you get it home...you get everything you will ever need when you first buy it. cheers
  2. did he remove the cap when the engine was running??. f he did then i would suggest that you have worn rings/pistons/cylinders...this lets some of your compression past the pistons and into the sump....when you take the cap off you let the pressure out what gives you the idea that its bottom end knock??..is it still there?? or only under certain conditions??. a faulty pressure relief in an oil pump wont send all the oil to the top of the engine. i owned an ae92r corolla for 6 years...had the problem of most of the engine oil being in the rocker cover and ending up going out the pcv valve and into the engine...it made HEAPS of smoke out the back!!!... i found it to be the engine oil was too thick for this particular engine and so changed it to a 10w 40 grade oil and never had the problem again if the noise is a crank issue then most likely you've spun a bearing or 2. cheers
  3. He owns a Townace Dj. He knows his stuff. ohh...big deal...i own a townace. perhaps you should get to know a person before you judge them
  4. i would suggest unblocking the fuel tank breather for a start. further suggestions would be check all flexible hoses on the engine for cracks and splits....if you find any replace them. also check your fuel pump and make sure its getting power....no fuel pump...no fuel. cheers
  5. the wiring you speak of that have no obvious place may be the following.... possibly either power for a backlit display and the other may be an interrupt lead for things like a handsfree phone kit. use a multimeter ( NEVER USE A TEST LIGHT ON AN INJECTED CAR OR A CAR WITH AIRBAGS.....THEY CAN GO OFF WITHOUT WARNING IF YOU GROUND/SHORT TO EARTH USING A TESTLIGHT.....you have been warned!!!) and test for either 12 volts when you turn your park lights on and off.....to test the other lead..plug the old head unit back in and test remaining lead for 5 volts...if it does then this will be for a handsfree kit to mute the radio when making/recieving a phone call cheers
  6. the oil....is it black??...if it is then its coming from the compressor side of your turbo. factory toyota turbos have the inherrent fault of compressor seals leaking. if the turbo isnt the cause then try removing the oil filler cap when the engine is at idle. if you get blown away from the air coming out then the engine has worn pistons/rings/cylinders. and for this model of vehicle and type of engine this "oil" problem is VERY common. cheers
  7. hi jack..... i have rebuilt this engine...mine is a 2c-t actually. im unsure about if it was fitted to any aussie lite-ace vans......but i DO know that they are fitted to the jap import version of a tarago. they have been around since about 84ish i believe. parts are available from toyota...but VERY expensive...best to try aftermarket....be careful if you rebuild it...they changed a few internal parts halfway through 1985. other than this its a normal toyota diesel engine. i have tested several types/grades of oil in this engine also....have found BP c3 mono 30 oil THE BEST. hope this helps cheers
  8. i tested every possible problem there could be but in the end i simply swapped the left and right channel and the problem was carried over. i tested 2 sets of speakers, 2 sets of cables, hu wise.. nothing could be wrong or could it.. hrm.. interesting.. well if you swapped left and right channel and it "carried over"....what did you swap around??...signal leads??...speaker leads??.....if you swapped signal leads around then it's your head unit....i would guess that you have done the simple things like make sure your balance and fader controls are both set to zero/centre cheers
  9. hi all... while both the 2c and 2c-t engines look similar to the 2L and 3L hilux engines....they are vastly different. the "L" series hilux engines are physically bigger and don't fit in and engine bay designed for a 2c engine. cheers
  10. find your closest ARB 4wd shop and ask them....they do that sorta thing all the time.....but why lift the body??...for more ground clearance??....if thats what your trying to achieve then save your bucks and go for taller tyres......ground clearance is measured from the ground to the diff pumpkin....lifting the body wont do bugger all cheers
  11. are you sure its the amp and not a signal lead rubbed through somewhere??...what about your head unit??....has it got both sides working?? cheers
  12. hi all.... it sounds like you stocko factory wiring loom isnt up to the task of keeping power to your lights....yes ok you have 13.6 volts at the headlight connector.....but what AMPERAGE do you have??....the stock harness is only good for about 6 to 10 amps....THATS IT!!!.....try setting up a relay across both high beam and low beam and wire the power side of the relay directly to the battery through a 15amp fuse. for a headlight/spotlight bulb of ANY wattage you NEED to supply it with as much amperage as you can. nearly all of these type of bulbs need the current to reach their rated wattage (55/60 or 55/100 is a common wattage) i have 4 spotlights on my import van and they are all wired with 6mm cable....600watts of high beam sure lights up the night when your on a long trip....and its WHITE!!! sorry guys but i dont believe in all this "artic blue" type crap.....it only dulls the amount of white light available and it shows up as if your lights arent as bright as they used to be. a 55/60 watt standard bulb will "outshine" a 55/60 "artic blue" bulb anyday cheers
  13. hi all...... seems you all have the usual car mod qualifications as well as the usual "add on's".........so i'm not gunna bother with that crap as i know how to do all that.......here's what i'm qualified to do.....bearing in mind i'm 36.. *qualified small engine mechanic with 18 years in the industry *aircraft engineering degree...also worked on some VERY interesting aircraft including a few GENUINE WW2 warbirds that defended australia's freedom *diesel fitter..a REAL one not those crappy "underwear" ones *industrial spray painter *auto electrician with a speciality in repairing/rebuilding alternators and starter motors *professional heavy vehicle driver (HEAVY trucks 12 tonne and up and the like) this is my daily job *machinery operator *professional dj/sound engineer/entertainer with 15 years experience *aircraft pilot cheers
  14. hi there... i suspect its a vacuum hose thats cracked or split. an EFI engine reads the amount of manifold pressure/vacuum and alters fuel accordingly. when you nail the engine from idle it will move slightly in its monuts...this may be enough to open the split hose and cause the problem. cheers
  15. hi there... yes the 2c and 2c-t engine are the same....the only differences are the manifolds for the turbo and a little plumbing here and there. why dont you rebuild what you have??....the "replacement" engine you speak of would possibly need rebuilding anyways as they come out of japanese vehicles that have done 50 000km. dont fiddle with the oil filter extension housing as this has cooling water from the radiator flowing through it. also think about the cost of rebuilding the turbo....mine cost me $1100 as these generally do cop a flogging in japan. unfortunately they are not an "off the shelf" item either. (its a CT12 turbo). i would suggest going into your local toyota dealer and look at what they can get for you. i own a 1991 super extra townace with the 2c-t turbo diesel engine. yes i have rebuilt this engine and have found a few things different between the year models. from 1985 onwards there were changes made to a few internal engine components as well as external. try asking for a right hand mount for a 1989 tarago van....these are the same as the original ones that my van uses. this also might be the correct one for you as well. i have started a new forum for these particular vans too cheers
  16. supercharged with water injection??....what are you trying to do??....make a Cappuccino?? i know the reasons for using water injection.....your making too much boost and REALLY heating up the charge air.i(i bet without it the engine rattles its head off like a bunch of rocks in a cement mixer) why not try underdriving the supercharger instead of overdriving it??.. your pistons/conrods/engine bearings will like you for not trying to hammer them into the road via the sump. superchargers have been around since early last century. most now live in top fuel dragsters...some in older 2 stroke detroit diesel engines (otherwise known as a screamin jimmy) while others are still used in modern performance engines. hold on.....i bet a factory aurion v6 doesn't use water injection on their "factory supercharger" just a few thoughts and ideas....iif you don't like them...well thats just too bad...we are all entitled to our opinions and some of us actually vent them constructively cheers
  17. that depends on how long it was sitting for. what happens is the oil drains out of the oil pump and has nothing to use to seal it when you fire up the engine. the best idea is to start the engine every week or so and let it idle for a while. this should stop it happening. cheers
  18. what parts etc do you need??....the alternator itself is a fairly common type....easily rebuildable. the vac pump may be a little more difficult. try your local toyota dealer for spares....they may have what you need. cheers
  19. i have had 2 models of these vans...a 1989 and currently i own/drive a 1991 model. both have the toyota 2c-t turbo diesel engine. i have rebuilt this engine and yes you can get engine parts direct from toyota...but don't tell them what its in...they shy away from you when you mention that "dirty word" (import) to them. anyways...stay tuned...theres more to come and it would be great to hear from any others who have experience on these vans cheers
  20. hi all.....i'm opening this topic for those of you who have these vans and/or need more info on them
