  1. I enquired about the Chip about 6 months ago, and they keep bugging me. For 2 grand, there is no way in hell im doing it. And ive asked around for extractors, and you cant get anything under $1500, and they are very rare. Im sticking to basic parts, these engines are pretty much tuned up in my opinion. Anything more would cost alot and wouldnt be worth the cost anyway. Thats just my opinion. Sparkplugs, oil filters, CAI, and exhaust, maybe some pulley's and thats about it for me.

  2. lucio_libre: damn man! heheh....not entirely true.

i know a 4banger n/a that can can up and sometimes beat turbos...and i'm NOT kidding. he's got the 1/4 run slips to prove it.

    all i'm saying is....with a N/A engine...you modify it DIFFERENTLY.

cams, port and polish....we dont' have forced induction..thus we do things differently...

the VTEC controller from what i've heard can also control the VVTL-i.

    mmmkay?

;) i know that too man, i'm not saying it's not possible, but i'd hate to see how much money he spent.

  3. This is an old topic, and nobody ever has an answer to the question asked. The engine is maxed out, if Lift was to kick in earlier, the engine would be under some serious stress. I'm sure the engineers at Toyota did what they did for a reason. And besides, it's more fun like this, and it tests your driving skills. The simple answer is, IF YOU WANT A 4 BANGA CAR TO MODIFY DONT GET A N/A, GET a TURBO. Cheaper and easier to get horses out. End of Story. peace.

  4. I just got back from an exhaust shop in Footscray. The salesman had a look at the exhaust and was very impressed. The standard one is 2 inches mandrel bent stainless steel. He used the word "beautiful" quite alot :D . His advice was to just get a different muffler, and not waste money in getting a cat back system as there is no need. The only restriction is at the muffler, so a sports one should give a few more horses and better sound. I was quoted 220 for a redback.

  5. i run it in according to the book for the first 1,000km.

from then till 15,000km i don't redline or anything.

that's what i've done with my levin..and it's working great.

    plus..i do every 5,000km service.

    change oil everytime with synthetic...

rotate, balance and align all 4 wheels each time.

it cost me a fair bit per service..but it's peace of mind for me.

    Yes, i admit, i'm padantic....but i don't care...i feel better! :P :P :P :P

You must bring a smile to any mechanics face. 15,000 is far too long for these cars mate, you'll wanna wait till 2000 then open her up a bit otherwise youre wasting time, you should enjoy the car untill you can, it wont last forever, nothing does :( .

  6. Relax xTigerx, the fun factor outweighs these small niggles which every new car gets. If you buy new models, there are always niggling issues that will be rectified by the time last models run out. This model although available in Europe for a few years, i dont think was manufactured in SA for that long, so there are issues. Nothing major though man, we just like it all PERFECT, unfortunately these cars are mass produced, and the damn engine revs really high so vibrations are always gona occur. Dont worry, relax and when you get your car, you will already know what can go wrong(thanx to us :D ), but dont call this car a Lemon, it's a Toyota, they never have, and never will make lemons.

  7. Last nite i realised for the first time that i'm getting the vibration noise too  . I havent heard it before until then and it occurs when im changing gears around 2500-3000 revs in second and third gears only. Not alot of noise but annoying nevertheless. Surely Toyota Australia knows about the problem but are turning a blind eye for now. Hopefully they rectify the problem for new Sportivo's ariving in the country and fix the problems for our rattlers.

  8. Ok mate, to be honest i dont think it's the brake pads alone. I have that whooing noise myself only when i engage the clutch and brake together to move uphill for example, soon an i release the brake to step on the throttle, the car rolls back wards and the noise appears. My next service is due early next year, so i'll let them have it :D.

  9. Yeah mate, BIG TIME, I thought the gearbox was stuffing up but I changed the Fuel and it's back to it's normal ***** kicking best. I found it hard to change, and i think it's because the car is under more stress and strain and the forces distribute throughout the whole drivetrain. In hi-cam mode, the car seems to run out of breath on crap fuel, and it takes ages to accelerate and it's very rough. Change fuel mate, you will see the difference. I puty Mobil, and it's alot smoother than Optimax in terms of revving.

  10. I used to own a silika a few years, 85 model RWD, IRS, 2.4 SOHC 22r-e engine, drove very very good indeed, the tacho was showing 4 grand at 180kph (cruising). Some prick totaled it around Xmas 2000 . My first car, the memories will always remain (especially having to explain the foot prints from the back windows to my missus :D ). Chicks just love Celicas, must be the name
