I have owned a black car before my stivo, and i got the paint sealant for $400 from Castle Hill Toyota. It was the wisest choice i ever made, it definitely makes the car alot easier to clean. It makes the car look alot shinier and sleeker! And it avoids the hassles and $$ of waxing! I definitely recomend it to anyone buying a black car.

About paint protection, i had it done in my old car, and i actually saw them apply it after my first smash, Its was in a car detailing place, it took 10mins, all they do is use some clear liquid and apply to your car, then they use some buffing machine thats does figure 8 motions. I ask what is that liquid they said once it dries it becomes rock hard.

i've got one of those machines that do the buffing for you too...bloody excellent.

mind you..i don't need to polish my car..just chiamos and buff lightly with mit to get water marks off.

so my machine is just sitting there...i bought it coz i was using it on my lancer.

Buffing machines and dark cars just dont seem to agree with each other... They are the biggest swirly maker of the lot !!!.. With my last car I actually wouldnt let the dealer to touch the paint as far a preperation goes... I told them I wouldnt sign the paperwork if a buff went near the car... What an anal ***** I am... Suffice to say the black paintwork looked brand spankers for 2 years.. Guess Im a one off nutter...

i ain't doing them all by myself :o ...it takes hours to properly buff a car. <_<

(well, when i do it it takes hours) ;)

you can borrow it..if you buy your own buffing pads.

*shrugs*

i dunno how much they cost...coz i've never had to buy one..

when my other friends how borrowed it..they just bought their own buff pads..

(you wouldn't want sum1 else's car stuff on your car would you?)

sorta like sharing a toothbrush...get ur own :P

hehehe

sharmz: i think you can buy them at autobarn/parklea/kmart/etc

My Father in Law owns a Panel Shop and advised me not to get the stuff he believes the stuff is a total rort especialy for the price. Just get a decent polish like megulars and keep the car clean. He has seen a lot of stuff in his years so I will trust his judgement. I got fabric protection once for my car and it did nothing. You can buy scotchgard in a can which does the job any way and cost way less than paying for the stuff. Ming has a huge markup on their products to the point of being criminal.

peekay34: how long did it take you to apply the whole 'protection package' to your stivo? (i'm assuming you said no to the dealer and did it all yourself)

I think it worth it. I got paint, interior, rust protection and darkest legal tint for $500, which was included in the capital cost of my vehicle.

I have a 1999 starlet with these options bought new, and still looks new after 5 years. the rust protectiona and tint are a must, the other nices. But when they offered at that price, I bought the lot.
