ZZE Fog or Driving Lights

Hey Guys,

Can any of you Stivo or Levin Drivers tell me if those lights below the bumper are Fog or Driving ?

Where is the switch to turn them on located ?

Any idea how much they cost ?

I'd like to get some as it looks like the wires are there for them on the poverty pack rollas (ie. Ascent + Conquest)

Thanks !

T.

I brought mine genuine and fitted aftermarket switch.

the lights are list price $237 thats not including GST

ther are some other parts needed totalling about $16 + GST

Then you need Globes Shop around... Supercheap Auto $20 - $30 Each

Micro relay $5 - $10

Rocker Switch $10 - $20

Genuine Stalk with fog switch Approx $270

I enquired with Sci-Fleet Toyota here in Brisbane about retro-fitting the driving lights, and they said not to bother, they quoted $1000 with a rocker switch and $1300 with the replacement headlight/indicator stalk!

However, I noticed on ozeparts.com.au last night that they stock sets, apparently with everything you need, for $320. Must check those out shortly!

Just be careful which way you go because in Queensland, the laws use to be that if they were not a standard spec on the vehicle, then you couldn't use them on the road...

I think if you were fitting the genuine Levin/Ultima/Sportivo ones to a Ascent or Conquest then you could prolly get away with it cause most coppas wouldn't know one 'rolla from the next but if you had ones that didn't look stock, then you may get picked up....

Just double check the laws though cause they may have changed....

The legality (or lack thereof) of driving lights is one of my pet hates, because everywhere you look there is a different story. We spoke to some cops at the Brisbane Motorshow this year about it, and they reckon as long as they come with the car and are adjusted so they are pointing downward as much as possible, then there's no problem.

They said if you have aftermarket ones, leave those for bad weather, but one night I was pulled over in the rain (what I would deem "bad weather") by an RBT and I was told "turn off ya spotties, this is a built-up area"!

I know there are good cops and there are bad cops, but I think when dealing with things like the law, road safety, etc, there needs to be only consistent cops.

Just one question rolla02, you mention you've seen wires for the driving lights on the lesser models, can I ask exactly where you've seen them? I haven't gone looking yet, but if you can direct me, that'd be great.

I know what you mean about consistant cops...

The local blue army in my area are the proud owners of a SS Commodore, complimented with factory foggies....lost count how many times I have seen it gracing the streets of Pine Rivers with them switched on.

Personally, the only foggies I hate are the ones pointing up, thank the lord mine don't...

Maybe they shoudl point their attention at the knuckleheads that turn their single headlight on high-beam because the other one has a blown bulb and they are too lazy to fix it....sheez, like switching one headlight on high-beam will compensate...

Got pulled over in a RBT last Saturday night and got told ever so unpolitely to turn the driving lights off mate. Just played dumb and said I didn't know they were on. ;) Consistentcy in enforcing the rules? I think the boys in blue aren't sure what the word means or for that matter what the rule is in the first place.

I was pulled over not long after buying my car by the boys in blue to tell me I had my driving lights on, and this was back in Adelaide on the old freeway just near Devils Elbow and the only 2 cars on the road were me and the cop!!!!!! I think he just wanted to check the car out because the Auto Club of SA had a Cruise (police escorted high speed run mind you) going the other direction up to Mt Lofty Summit. But anyway the cop had a good look over my car before he came to the window, saw it was stock, apologised for pulling me over and 'reminded' me to turn my driving light off.

The thing that gets me about the Rolla driving lights is that the standard ones are actually angled so far down that they actually fill a blackspot that exists between the normal beam and the front of the car. Check it out!!!! Test by turning lights on as you would normally, then turn on the Spotties, then turn back the headlights to just the driving lights and you'll see what I'm talking about!!!!! So for the standards there is nothing the cops can enforce anyway because there is no chance of the beams from them interfering with any other road users... and that is supposed to be their major concern...

Buddha,

If you snap out the black inserts at the bottom of the bumper, there is a connector just inside. I don't know if it's for lights or not but it ain't plugged into anything !

Cheers

G'day T,

Just been down to check the 'Rolla, there certainly is at least one connector in there (I only checked the driver's side) and I can't think what else it might be for.

I might ask the dealer when it goes in for a service next month, see if they'll be straight with me!

 @ Afyfe

After all this talk of what is and isn't legal, and you throw that in??

Picture the scene ... Afyfe pulled over for RBT, bumper driving lights are on.

Officer: Excuse me, sir, but turn your driving lights off.

Afyfe: I didn't know they were on, how can you even see them? (switches roo lights on, blinding Officer).

Officer: (rubbing eyes) Sorry, sir, my mistake. Please move along.

Officer returns to station with red and watery eyes, and is teased by colleagues thinking that he's crying or perhaps using some previously confiscated "evidence".

No, I'm not bored. I was, but I'm not now. :P

I'll have you know that Mr Policemans eyes were not red from siezed evidence or being blinded by the roo lights...

He was crying cause afyfe has leather and the production line cop-car got woven upholstery

Just some more info about these ... Ozeparts now have a picture of the package on their website (previously it was just a text description). Going by that, I'd say it would be real easy to fit, but being the mechanical/electrical dufus I am, I'll still have a proper sparky fit them for me. Now to find the spare $$$.

Ah yes, the world of "pulling your car apart" ... as you say, much fun to be had.

I have been there on numerous occasions with previous vehicles, sometimes things worked out ok, other times I needed someone to accompany me back to the world of "car in one piece" again!

No ego with me, if there's something I have trouble doing myself, I'm happy to let a professional (or a much-trusted amateur) look after it!
