Air Flow?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just a quick question. I dont understand the concept of the CAI.

Whats the difference between getting a CAI for my Corolla sportivo compared to jusr re-routing the pipe to the airbox. so that instead of it coming out of the air box to behind the headlight, it might for example go to underneath the car picking up all the air flow that travels under the body.( in direct line with the front of the car)

They both have that air flow sensor, they both have the air filter so i dont really understand whats the big difference that makes that bit of more power with the CAI>????

Hopefully those with the CAI can enlighten me :D

Thanks

You'd probably get more or the same power just re-routing it, because someone i know did that and he got more kw's at a dyno day compared to others with CAI's.

I guess the good thing about a CAI is it's more attractive and has that nice suction sound.

Simply that the standard box and its associated plumbing is restrictive and designed to provide enough flow while minimizing noise....

A CAI besides drawing in cold air, has less restriction. The tube that connects the airbox to the throttle body is quite small, try measuring it one day, not to mention the air duct as well.
