TDI golf claims something like high 3's per 100k's on high way and low 4's around town. Honda Jazz gets 4.8 city and 4.3ish highway driving.

as for the lowest not sure but don't think there will be too much better than about the marks indicated above.

meh, nothing suprising. Many people have made working engines that run only on water. However all have been ruined and driven to exile by the government. Free energy = no money for government.

I think people's outrage over petrol prices will eventually overpower the governments need/want for money and cars like this will become the 'norm'

Nah, no way... Big corporations provide lots of dosh to the government. And are large employers of the masses.

It is in the government's interest to keep the oil industry and current automotive industries alive and well...

Low energy cars = low petroleum sales = less income from taxes

Low energy cars = low sales of current/forthcoming vehicles = no money for company = lays off all its workers = unemployment rate increase

also = rise in prices from remaining car manufacturers

GM produced some electric cars once...they all got crushed before they had a chance to go on sale, as a result of the relationship between the US gov't and the oil companies...
