Story starts with me scoring a set of Tom's Racing wheels ( 15 x 7, + 35 offset, 6.9kg/wheel) and had them shipped over from Japan. They had minor blemishes all over the wheel which required sanding to get rid of them. So i thought hell, i'll just spray the centres (the spokes) as well like my current Volk wheels. Anyway heres the pic's that tells the story

After 3 grades of sandpaper including wet and dry and sanding you will need these three items

your wheels turned out way better then mine did,

i didn't use the etch primer and when the guys put new tyres the paint chiped away so easly,

i might redo mine again (when i can be bothered) or get them powdercoated.

you have just convinced me to spray my white wheels to matte black ;)

Might look quite nice if your wheels had a red lining just on the rims.

Top effort. Looks the goods!

Tip for new players:

Bunnings Spec matt black = $3 a can

Just an update, i have been to the carwash and scrubbed the wheels down with the brush and high-pressure hosed them down. No flaking or blemishes. This is without clear coat as well. So doublezero, if you go for the matt black just make sure the surface is well prepped and you shouldn't have any problems.

Good luck!
