rattle in dash

Well i have now got a rattle in my dash, or its more of a creeking. If anyone has had this fixed, can i get the details of of which toyota depot fixed this. And if its cool can i get your rego.

What is going on at the moment is my toyota guy doesnt really have a clue how to fix this, so if i give him a toyota location and rego, he can call up your toyota depo and talk to the mechanic that has already fixed this problem, and found the solution.

Instead of him having my car for days and pulling absolutely everything out, looseing everything up, and probably resulting in more rattles in the long run.

If i could get these details of someone, it would be much appreciated.

Thankyou

Bondie.

Hiya Bondie,

Over in West Australia the service department was able to print off a step by step guide on what to do to replace the faulty clips. They handed it over to the guys out back and i got told that it would take 3-4 hours..

hope this helps a little

Good luck!

I am led to beleive there is still no proper fix for the issue. I understand some owners have had some luck but no doubt it will be back soon enough. It's just a horrible design that's the cause.

He has a point...

Well..I didnt expect much from an aussie built car after seeing many forums, not to mention the pricey is not that exp...

If Toyota offers to fix the rattles and all goes smooth... Then it's all good.

We're doing a fair few of the Camry's every week...

Pull the dash off, insulate the clips and put it all back together...

Works well...

Insulate the clips eh? The creaking on mine sounds a little more extensive than that. Hard to really define what it all comes down to in the end. The minor flexing in the dash is certainly doing something. With all this messing around with Toyota that seems to be all the go to get it fixed, I'm regretting that I didn't read up about all this dash creaking prior to reassembling my car. I had it down to the point where I could have easily removed the dash, yet I didn't think there was a need to at the time. I 'could' utilise my spare time today to pull it all apart (I predict that it will take me a total of around 4 hours to ensure I do everything I can), but I'm tossing up whether or not I can be bothered to now.

I get the creaking noise when the cabin is hot under the hot sun... all the noises comes from the drink holder, gear shift lever area... tried lifting the console there and put it back again... but nope doesnt work...

other than that no other rattle in other areas...

ZR NATE - Awesome thanks for the Pers message, i rang Big rock toyota in WA like you said, and they said it has been notated on their technical computer system - it isnt a recall yet, but has been notated that some Aurions are experiencing the rattles and creeking in the dashes.

Their computer system is called Saris, and the flag that has come out is publication reference - 2108. ( For anyone that needs to quote this to their toyota dealership.) The toyota system is used Aust wide.

It quotes like many of you have said, the clips need up grading.

I passed this info on to my Toyota dealership, he told me he has one comming in on monday for the same problem. So hopefully once that one is completed (guinee pig), ill put mine in and they will have their sh*t in one sock and their will be no probs.

Thanks again "ZR NATE" and the rest of you that replied.

Cheers guys.

Bondie.

I also had the dreaded dash rattle. I told my dealer about it and the said they would order the clips in. While waiting, i got sick of the rattle and fixed it myself.

I noticed the noise was coming from the top of the dash where it meets the bottom of the windscreen. Rather than pulling the entire dash out i did the following.

1. Removed the two speaker (tweeter grilles), purchased some sticky backed foam strips in black (the stuff you get from bunnings to unsulate door jams). Stick two strips along the bottom edge of the grille where it meets the windscreen. Re-insert the grill.

2. Go to clark rubber and purchase some 2mm perforated rubber matting. Cut a long strip and double it over. Push the rubber strip along the length of the dash in between the windscreen and the dash. This puts a little downward pressure on the top of the dash and eliminates the rattle. If you push the rubber down far enough you wont be able to see it.

I did this about 6 weeks ago and have not had a single creak, squeak, of rattle from my dash - hot or cold.

Toyota called me to bring the car in as the clips had arrived, but i decided not to bother, they are more likely to damage something else in the process of the repair. ( I don't have too much faith in some of the people they employ to do the work).

If you have the rattle in the centre console, simply unclip it upwards and then cover the clips in some of the sticky backed foam strip and push the console cover back down, works perfectly. (its basically all toyota will do anyway).

So far so good. Car is tight and completely rattle free.

Good work mate, ill give it a go.

I think same way, usually in the past when i have taken my car into a dealer, it has been fixed but come back with another problem, usually due to them missing a screw here of there or prying some thing open that hard that the durability of the plastic just doesnt bounce back like a brand new one.

Some of stories I have heard form mechanics that have worked at some very repitile dealerships would make you cringe. None of my mates of course, usually guys you meet a parties, the d*cks that think it is cool to hammer someone elses $40,000 dollar car because they are stuck driving around around a datsun 180b. (no offence to dato drivers, been there done that, alot of fond memories when i was 17)

Again thanks for the info bud.

I was wondering if that would provide a simple fix, simply putting foam into between the dash and the windscreen

It fixed the creaks in a BA Xr6 i used to drive

On several occasions ive stuffed a cloth into the gap on the aurion when the rattle has become annoying and its stopped :) foam would be a more permanent fix

im going to give it a go, cant be bothered with taking the car in to get it fixed, to much hassle

i'll try this first

Cheers :D

Quick questions i want to ask n hope they can come up with good solutions.

What if Toyota says my car generated rattles and stuff due to modifications, fitted with aftermartket wheels and springs (pedders) and therefore, wont be covered under warranty? [ Booked in yesterday and one of the Mechanic stated this ].

I did say that the rattles has been there even b4 the modif. But IF they found out those rattles are coming out of those Mods, they not gonna cover them.

How do they work this out? I will be like seriously ****** if they arent going to fix it...

I had issues with my Honda where i had made a complaint about a bad rattle coming from the glovebox and i knew it was the glove box cause when you pushed on it it stopped..

i had installed a head unit into the dash and he argued that they had looked at it and that it was the head unit rattling when the noise was in no way caused by this and was there before hand

very frustrating trying to talk to these people sometimes, they're stubborn and will make up excuses to avoid a solution.

ended up fixing the issue myself

My TRD has the same rattle and it comes with Low profile and sports suspension standard, it just makes the rattle more obvious

It shouldnt be to much of an issue as they'd have to be admitting the car is not made well enough in the first place for a rattle to start in the dash from lower profile tyres and its a well documented issue from what i can tell

when i opened up my center console...

guess what ive found...?

a starcity casino pen lodged next to the auto gear shift unit...

something tells me that the car was given the rattle and creak look over at the dealer before it went onto auction...
