Engine racing

Hey guys just looking for possibly causes and or solutions. i have a 1995 toyota levin automatic. about two weeks ago i notice when i press the gas pedal it has a gap before it start reving so i pull down the throttle body and cleaned it with cabarator cleaner and change the sparks plugs the gap is no longer there but i notice the enging is racing when i press gas i can ere the engine crying out but the car not goin more than about 38-40 km/h.

It's automatic and the engine is revving, but the car is not moving very fast? Sounds like a dead torque convertor in the automatic gearbox.

Bingo. First thing I thought was slipping clutch, but then saw it was auto. Equivalent to a slipping clutch in an auto is a fubared torque converter (not locking up properly)
