the mp3 version of the stivo double din, doesn't have a loud button, whereas my old 2003 did. gav knows this, as he's experienced it, but i've lost heaps of punch out of my system with the new one not having a loud button.

what are my options bang for buck to get back to a better sounding system. the radio sounds sht. i was thinking about a new head unit, but i love the factory look, so what about a small amp to power up the channels. most importantly, my car needs to be stock, no new major wires and stuff in the engine bay. and don't suggest a sub, i don't want the weight.

way back, in an old corolla, i had this little unit, cost me $50, was an equaliser, with little switches all over the front of it, and it boosted the power to all speakers dramatically.

i'm all ears

All i can really say due to personal experience, buy a decent well known brand. e.g pioneer, clarion etc. Because i have noticed that with the cheaper models, they claim they put out so much watts but its all fake.

I put a clarion hu in my stivo and its louder than stock, and its just the HU powering the speakers while a mate went backwards by putting in a ebay $600 hu dvd player and u can barely hear his speakers compared to when he a had a sony deck powering them up.

Budget? There's a decent-ish solution that's relatively cheap, and an extremely good solution that's quite expensive.

Loud buttons are bad, all they tend to do is boost bass/midrange which can leave you with destroyed speakers (especially on aftermarket headunits and amped speakers).

i love the loud button. makes up for listening at lower levels especially.

ok what are my options rth? try door number one first, cheap and effective. nothing to show, everything hidden

4 channel amp under a front seat, using high level inputs. Cheap as to do, only need the amp + a wiring kit, can knock the whole thing out in probably two hours. You won't have a 'loud' button so to speak, but it will give you plenty more volume.

Oh, and it's trh, but feel free to call me Drew :P

Budget? I'm sure I can find you something. You'll need an 8 gauge wiring kit too.

Phil: If you want to keep your bluetooth mp3 stacker, just get an amp from Jaycar (4x50wrms) and get some LOC (Line out Convertors) to convert the amplified signal from the headunit to audio only to the amp. The LOCs will also maintain your fade and balance control if you get 2 of them. :)

http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA...mp;SUBCATID=595

You will also need a gold plated distribution block, 4guauge wire for the amp, speaker wire to make up the distance to the amp, and a gold plated volt metered terminal for the positive post on the battery (if you want street cred ;)). I think you'd be looking at $350 from Jaycar for all that. So you might want to consider a high powered quality headunit as opposed to this shopping list now. 4x50wrms is plenty enough power to fry your stock speakers if you don't pull the gain down on the amp. :P

Cheers, Gav.

i personally would go headunit over amp for $350 you would get a pretty half decent head i got my alpine for $471 and it is a fairly high end one then just replace the 2nd din section with a tray thing and get another bit of storage space.

Check it Alpine Headunit
