Guys

I'm going to install the AVC-6901 incar GPS/DVD unit from Auspacks and had gotten details from Rob about cameras.

Have pretty much read all of the excellent stuff on these forums around reverse cameras, but still have one question.

Rob from Auspacks stated that most Camry/Aurion owners installed the "Angle Mounted Camera" as seen at :

http://members.optusnet.com.au/auspacks/reversingCamera.html

but this unit looks different from most of the photos of the bullet-style ones I've seen in the forums.

The other unit (Bumper Camera) doesn't look to have a mounting bracket so don't know if this one can be made to fit in the hole above the number plate.

What camera do people actually use???

Any assistance appreciated.

Cheers

Michael

HI Micheal,

AUspack never gave me a choice and i was supplied with the bumper camera (round one) I have the ZR6 so there was already a hole there but the hole is a little smaller than required. Anyway its a tight enough fit (and the hard plasitc surround can be shaped a little) that you don't have need a bracket however i personally couldn't get the camera angle exactly right... it does work and its great but its not perfect.

hope this helps a little,

Nate

Thanks for the info. From what you are saying I gather that it is tight enough to sit in the location? Did you need to drill/file anything? And I guess it needs to be sealed to stop water entry?

How bad is the camera angle?

This weekend, I'll open up the boot and have a look to get a better idea.

Cheers

There was a bit of filing and swearing involved and the angle is close enough to perfect that i haven't hit anything yet.... Did'nt use a sealant (should have) but so far no water has made it through..

Good one Nate...just placed an order. :D

Will get it next week and start playing.

Guys

I've got my 6901 unit installed and am in the process of doing the camera (got the barrel one).

I know others have said they got it installed OK in the hole above the number plate, but for the life of me I cannot seem to work out how to do this and get the angle right (ends up pointing mostly down at the ground/bumper).

Also how do you get it to actually mount as there is no mounting hardware.

I'd appreciate any advice and even some close up photos would be great.

DJKOR/Nate...I know you guys have this same one at least. Are you able to help?

Cheers

If you play around with the camera, you'll find that it has a threaded section on the back and some angled adapters. You simply push it through a pre-drilled hold and tighten it up.

This is where a search comes in handy:

Infra red reverse camera

Bear in mind my installation involved more hacking at the plastic due to my large numberplate.

Daryl...thanks. Yeah was only looking at mounting on the plastic trim originally. Will have to remove that and have more of a look.

For some reason my searches did not come across your article with pics. Thanks, that helps heaps.

Just a quick question. For anyone who as installed reversing camera from AUSPACK, which one (round camera or angle mountable one) and which position did you install?

The hole above number plate seems to only be able to install the round bullet shaped camera.
