Hi guy's

My wife has just picked up a yaris YRS 06 model, she only got one remote key with it and the toyota dealership has quoted her $500 to get an extra made up! This seems a little excessive to me. Any of you guys had to get an extra key made up? What were the costs?

Thanks in advance ;)

Yes that sounds about right. The remote key is roughly $400 itself. Then labour to get it coded. The key has to get coded for both immobilizer and the central locking.

How much does it cost to get it coded to the car?

They charge around $35-$50 depending on the dealer. It should only take under 30 minutes, but if they are fairly incompetent like the last time I got it done, they took like 45-60 minutes.

You need to make sure you bring all your keys and remotes with you.

So you guys reckon that there is an option of sourcing the key elsewhere (ebay) and taking it to the dealer to get them to code it to the car? and if so all of this could save you $300! If this is the case it defiantely seems worth the effort.

That's definitely a good way to save money. You just can't guarantee that the key will have the right chip for the car though. The only way to find out really is to try it.
