/I/ am looking for some new tyres for my 2004 (upgrade) levin with stock alloy wheels.

The tyres on there at the moment are 195/60/15 but I am wondering what sizes I can replace them with that will be legal. I have been reading a few sites and the information regarding the laws is quite contradictory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you really want to upsize your tire for a little bit of a fatter look, I would recommend stepping up to a maximum of 205/55R15. The general guide (note, does not always work) is to step up one level in tire width and down one level with profile.

As for legalities, so long as you are very close to the original rolling diameter and have the same or greater load/speed rating, you should be fine.

Using the following calculator, you can obtain differences in rolling diameter etc:

And make sure the tyres u choose meets ur minimum load rating..

If it is below.. popos wont be happy and ur insurance will not cover u if u have a crash

Thanks guys,

Excuse my ignorance but I thought you couldn't fit wider tyres to wheels? I didnt think a tyre place would put 205's on my stock wheels?

Some tire shops are picky about that matter. Usually if they have a problem with something like that (going wider while maintaining diameter and suitability for rim width), then I would try someone else.

May I just make a tire suggestion. If you're not after a ultra high performance tire, then the Yokohama C.Drive is a very nice tire. I believe it's from the sporty comfort range on the scale. They grip really well and are very quiet too. We have them on our '04 facelift Levin too (195/60R15).

Goodluck! :)
