I can't really make a direct comment as I haven't experience this before on a relatively newer engine, but personally I find any noticeable oil consumption to be cause for me to have it looked at.

I have heard cases of people with the 4-cylinder Camry in the States having abnormal oil usage when others have none. Toyota thought ahead of this though and if you look into your manual, you will find what they pass off as 'acceptable' oil consumption. I'm not sure about yours, but for my engine they state a maximum of 1.0 L per 1000 km. Have a look at whatever yours is as stated in your manual, and this will give you indication of what Toyota are going to do about it.

I keep hearing about those that have theirs consuming close to the 1.0 L per 1000 km and all that Toyota have said is that it is completely acceptable and would not do anything about it. In that case, it would be better to have it looked at independently.

Phwoar, in that case I would almost be going through an oil change a month. 1L/1000km seems pretty damn terrible, to be quite honest - my 120000km old engines dipstick reading doesn't change from when I fill it to when I service it.

Oil consumtion in newer cars is nearly always caused by bad run-in. 90% of ppl buy their cars and think oooh it so new. I'll 'look after' it and baby it around everywhere with light throttle and early gear changes. The rings never get pushed out properly and they don't bed in. Not a lot u can do about it now.

contact your dealership and get them to carry out an oil consumption test. possible that engine oil may be drawn into the combustion chamber during deceleration. should cost you nothing for the test

Normal for the new Corolla's to use oil... They all seem to be doing it...

Oil cunsumption test consists of topping up the engine oil to the full line, customer takes the car for 1000kms, brings it back and checks the oil level...
