hey all,

as the title states, ive been told from the installer who did my HID that you can get hi powered LED for your low beams now... i know audi and other luxary companies are using them but has anyone here had experience with a LED conversion with low beams? They are supposed to be as bright as HID's, but will they be a better light to use???

obviously if they can match HID output then they would be awsome, low power needs, instant on, long azz life span....

commercially available and viable LEDs are improving, but are not yet near the capabilities of HID. You can get some very bright LEDs, but to come even close to HID you would need quite a few of them.

Yes you could get some LEDs that would do that job, but be prepared to pay through the teeth for a very specialised set up. Also despite popular belief, they actually can run very hot too making a cooling arrangement necessary as well.

Those will get you absolutely nowhere.

-DAvo: If you are interested in getting true LED low beams, just so you know, there was a set of OEM Audi LED headlights on eBay not too long ago.

..... USD$6000 per side. Direct from Audi would probably be more than that.

LED headlight technology is not cheap.

at that price for those ebay ones, I'd be tempted to get some just to prove how crappy they really are

ouch!

yeah after speaking to the installer today, the LED's he mentioned to me would only be good for cosmetic purposes... i am still looking at getting a cheap set to put into my fogs - purely for looks. Will eventually upgrade the fogs to HID as well.

guess this proves one thing - Whilst they have massive potential, LED's still have a fair way to go until they hit the masses :P

thanks for all the input fellas!

I have a set that has the same amount of LED's on it...

... they have a T10 base and they replaced my reverse lights. Made my reverse lights less functional and more cosmetic.

Coming across this thread, I did a little bit of reading.

-Although the headlights wouldn't feel warm when you put your hand in front of it, the LED chips require the use of a heat sink due to the heat they generate.

-Early versions of the Lexus LS600h headlights consume 50 watts per headlight, while the second generation LED headlight system (Also used in the Prius III, RX450h & HS250h.) produces 33 watts per headlight.

-The LEDs used in these headlights might be different from those found on the usual eBay LED strips.

A photo of the LED headlights switched on, and a view from the driver's perspective (Note: Not my photos.).
