ABS and Handbrake light

I'll get it rectified at service in 4000km, in meantime, any idea what is causing this.

The handbrake is off, and even if I pull it on gently whilst driving and then take it off again, the light still says on

Same with the abs light.

not all the time, say 1 out of every 2 starts. Does not affect car at all, just wanting to know what's causing it.

right

so the light was on, so at 50kmh, slammed the brakes on in the wet

the car skidded, the abs at first kicked in, then the car just locked up

suggestions, reason why the abs is not working

car is going into toyota asap now

Probably some wiring gone dodgy somewhere. Can be a pain trying to trace, did it with my car and came back to the battery terminal being corded really really bad and wasn't making a proper connection. Not say that's your problem, could be any number of things, a dodgy wheel speed sensor, dodgy ABS ECU, etc.

the rear wheel speed sensor is built into the hub assembly, $300 is cheap. The last quote I got for the rear hub from toyota was $1200. From memory I have a couple of spare hubs in the shed somewhere, not sure if the south african bult assemblies are different though.

If your handbrake light is playing up, I'd be looking at the handbrake light switch first, I'd have to check the sportivo wiring diagram to see if the ABS ECU has an input from the handbrake though.

handbrake always works fine. even the abs works ok when the light is not on

both lights if they are on are on together.

what i know is toyota tech said it was a rear wheel abs sensor throwing up an error code, but they weren't sure

if you could check the wiring, that would certaninly be appreciated.

I thought the wheel speed sensor itself could be removed, but the timing ring (for the lack of a better word) was part of the hub?

And yes, it does look like the ABS ECU does receive a feed from the handbrake. Handbrake goes to a junction box; this box has a wire to the ABS ECU (PKB) and a wire off to the EBD resistor, this then leads off the brake and ABS lights on the cluster. Could be a EBD issue?
