Hi guys..

I know this is already mentioned a thousand times...

I read all of the posts, pros and cons..

Know I think that I'm sure that i'll get the PPE headers.

Is this the right one for my car?

I think Superdave has the PPE header in the corolla, also need a new midpipe (incl cat). Stock ported manifold is good too, but if your chasing for mid - high end extra power then its the PPE's for sure.

I had PPE headers in my old Celica and they were awesome. Need new midpipe and you should have 2.5" exhaust piping after it. So a whole new system really if you dont have 2.5" already.

Dont buy it from Monkeywrench, buy direct from PPE to make sure you get one that fits.

Ended up putting it in the Celica as it was cheaper to order the PPE midpipe to go with it. No dynos have been done with the upgrade though.

FWIW the stock Celica and Corolla mid pipes are identical except after the resonator.

Thinking about going stock when selling car, i don't think it's a good idea to get the stock manifold ported.

The PPE will give mid-high end power gains, but what about low/acceleration?

any difference according that? will it slightly increase/decrease or stay just the same?

Will also work on the corolla sportivo right, if i let an exhaust shop set the midpipe a bit to the back. (that's the only modification required right?) ?

I believe so. If in doubt, contact them, they're pretty good with communication, just remember there's a mega time difference.

Is it really necessary to do this, performance wise?

How much difference will it make?

Did bother on the ceramic coating on my one as we don't have salted roads in Brisbane :P

The paint is pretty thin, pretty much rubs off, so what you are getting really is a bare steel (or stainless if you want to pay even more) manifold.

The Celica mid pipe will not fit the Corolla. The bends after the resonator need to be different.

I found PPE to be very easy to deal with also.

How much difference will it make?

I got mine ceramic coated, but that was because the alternative was thin paint and I wanted it to last (and stainless would of bumped the price up high enough for customs to tax me). Performance wise I doubt there was much gain.

When installing these headers, what are the most important things i Need to know?

  • Is it necessary to leave the catalytic converter?
  • What will happen with the O2 sensor?
  • can i just bore a hole in the 2.5" pipe after the header and put in the O2 sensor?
  • Can the stock O2 sensor be used or do i have to change it with an 'high flow sensor'?

any other things i need to know?

  • The catalytic converter only needs to stay if it is illegal to remove it in your Country.
  • If you remove the cat something needs to be done to trick the o2 sensor into thinking the cat is still there. If you are using the stock ECU then you need to use the stock o2 sensor. If you are using a PowerFC then it isn't required.
  • If you want to add a bung for another o2 sensor (the PPE manifold should already come with one, but confirm with PPE) yes you just drill a hole and weld in a bung; PPE sell bungs too.
  • If you want to use a gauge to monitor your AFRs you will need to buy an after market wideband set up.

for now, I'm just gonna run on the stock ECU.

I will also remove the catalytic converter, which is not illegal back here.

another thing..?

if I just run on the stock ECU, is the header upgrade even gonna be worth it?

will i have significant power gains?

or is it best to add a piggy back after the I/H/E mods?

what's gonna be the difference between adding a piggy back or just run stock ECU (after resetting it)?

Think of it this way. You get a piggy back or full ECU now, you gotta get it in and tune it. Tuning is expensive.

Then you go and get headers, gotta re-tune. More money.

Or you could get the headers now and ecu later and only pay for one tune.

They're worth it without an aftermarket ECU but even better with, get the headers first.

... you can get a auto 2zz corolla?

Other markets got the 2zz Corolla with the Auto; Australia as far as my limited searches shows only got the manuals.

I don't see there being an issue with fitment being automatic.

Yup, mine is an auto (with tiptronic)

I really preferred manual over auto, but unfortunately only auto's here.

Only one guy i know of has a manual... unsure.gif congrats to him tongue.gif

For the fitment on the auto transmission, I contacted PPE and hey say that it's also applicable for the auto transmission..

Another question guys..

Mine Corolla is from Japan.

I assume that the PPE header is for an American built.

Someone back here told me that the the diameter of the pipes may differ (Japan built VS US built)

You guys that fitted the PPE header on the Corolla, is it Jap built or US built?

Depends on what you mean by 'bolt on'.

It won't line up to the exhaust as the cat needs to be moved back, which may require the resonator to be moved back also. Otherwise it will bolt to the head and fit through the exhaust tunnel.

It's already clear that in order to install the header, you need to put the resonator a bit backwards.

but my last question is still unanswered :(

will the header just bolt on (without any modification) to the engine itself?

then i'm talking about an Japan built..

Yes no difference on that side. Just make sure you don't get the air injection edition. All 2zzs are the same, except on the air injection system. Make sure you get a new gasket, just to be on the safe side.

Btw have you bought it yet?
