Engine knock?

I read this @ productreview.com.au. First I've heard of such a thing.

Overall: I have the 2006 sportivo sx6 and I like everthing about this car. Was going to look at the camry sportivo but because i took my husband when i bought it we got the bigger option. Got the fuel down to 6.9L/100km on highway on cruise control, which is good considering I live out west. Only setback is this knock in the engine. Toyota say the only thing they can do is replace the pistons to a bigger size but I'll lose my fuel economy. Or I just have to put up with it and pray it does not blow the engine up. Wondering if any other aurion owners have had similar problems and what they have been able to do about it.

Sounds like the good old discussion on piston slap. In general, I don;t think it is anything to worry about on these cars. Also sounds like the dealer he/she was speaking to didn't really know what he was on about. Some previous discussion:

To summarize for others....

The knock can occur at cold starts but it's not consistent. It commonly develops just before a service is due, then disappears after the service. Maybe the car knows it's due?

There was a short video re: an oil additive, which may or may not be useful?

I was at a servo filling up with petrol today and the dude behind me that was filling up as well had a nice red Sportivo ZR6.

After I paid, he was still filling up so I went over and asked him what his fuel economy was like.

He mentioned that he had recently bought the car (second hand) and it had an engine knock when he test drove it , and had stipulated to the dealership he would buy the car provided they fixed the knock problem.

Apparently they had just replaced the whole engine.

Not sure whether it was after he bought it and it kept knocking or before he bought it.
