fumey $AGE

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Just had my corolla SX serviced and they suggested an engine de -coke---fine ,except that it is now fumey !!--no smoke, but unpleasant cabin fumes, has done 277K and still has plenty of poke,no bottom end noises etc ,so I am not happy.

Tried additives to no avail---? best solution--? re-build or try my luck with a changeover(ie used but approved)(should read 4AGE of course!

Tx

Anyone understand wtf this guy is trying to say??

Basically, the OP has had the his engine cleaned of carbon deposits and now his car is giving off some pretty strong fumes but no smoke.

Fumes in cabin usually equals leaky exhaust or leaky boot/hatch seals.

I'm guessing that whatever cleaned out the engine also cleaned out some deposits in the exhaust, which now leaks (flex pipe perhaps?)

Exhaust has been completley replaced and leak tested, have sealed hatch as best I can

what kind of fumes?

raw fuel? burnt fuel? fart? oil? burnt oil?

seriously the word "fume" could mean heaps of different sh!t...

my rb20 was giving off a lot of unpleasent fumes... but by me knowing that it was the smell of unburnt fuel, then i knew where to start looking for the problem...

Not unburnt fuel---sort of second hand exhaust that gives you a headache after a while---has been called "blow by" by an acquantance of mine who also suggested blocked PCV valve--except I don't think these have them.
