Engine whine

Hey guys,

Does anyone else have a noticable engine whine in their aurion? Happens at all engines speeds. Not sure if it is normal or not. I also have a slight drivetrain vibration under moderate acceleration.

Car has only done 22000km, took it in to dealer and they replaced idler bearing to fix the whine but has not made a difference. There is only one dealer in this town and after my two visits I have not been impressed....

I think the whine is due to the low viscosity oil. I had the same whine in my old camry when i put 5W30 oil in it.

But hey, the whine sounds like a quiet supercharger.

But in all seriousness, this engine does sound different to most. I found that you do get some different sounds but nothing that would indicate a fault. The engine does have it's unique sound, but it's just the sound of smooth revving.

About the only noticeable thing on my last Aurion was that it exhibited some gearbox whine, but mainly only in first gear. You could hear it when accelerating up hill from a stop when the windows were down. Otherwise, any other 'whine' was too quiet to notice. Nothing to worry about. Nothing is going to break on you.

you may find that it might be the power steering pump, or the aircon making the whining sound.

After reading this thread ages ago I've concentrated on this whine noise and mine certainly has it. It's at all speeds and any engine temperature.

It's not a bad sound to be honest. It has the sexy 'electronic' feel to it and not some clunky Holden Ford engine sound.
