What is the purpose of this?

That is a top mount for the struts, which is poorly bolted to the front sill/end. No, i wouldnt recommend welding anything to it either, just buy a strut brace to replace the whole thing, which, also bolts to the front sill.

pretty sure i can knock 1 up with some balsa wood! lol!**** this is exactly why i still havent messed too much around the engine bay.. do it right the first time with the best gear when you got the cash to spend. dont waste $$$ on home made performance stuff.

****edit - i laugh, but in the past im guilty of thinking I can mod 1 up a home made strutbar as well..
