Hi,

I have a toyota corolla and the current tyre size is 175/70R14. Is it OK to replace it with 175/65R14? The 175/65R14 is much cheaper compared to the 175/70R14. Someone told me it will mess the speedometer reading if I use the 175/65R14, is it true? Is it safe to change it?

Thanks.

the sidewall wil be 5% smaller. which means that will cause ur wheels to spin faster hence you will be travelling at a slower speed than what is actually being displayed on the dash. furthermore you will register more kms on the ODO. check in the manual if its size is legal as well...

That's right Kenshin. Also, you have have to consider the load rating and whether that car is suitable to run on those tyres or not. I assume that the load rating will be different due to the tyre size difference. Otherwise, there's no major problem when using tyres of that size.

Thanks for all of your replies... I wonder why Toyota fit a uncommon tyre specification on their car??? I asked most tyre stores and they told me the 175/70R14 is uncommon, so more expensive.. why not Toyota fit a 175/65R14 instead?!!!

if thats the AE-1** model (4AFE/7AFE motor) then the stock tyre is 175/65 R14 82H

did all the ZZE model had 15's?

Yep, AE112R is 175/65R14.

However, 2002 is ZZE with 15's. Maybe OP bought an AE112 in 2002?
