c-one lightened pulley

already been several topics on the benefits of a lightened flywheel this should be something new to the forum.

on the left is the lightened pulley from c-one and on the right is the stock pulley. for those of us who are unable to get the lightened flywheel/clutch combo you could have an auto or a standard corolla wanting to increase performance without the part/labour cost of installing flywheel/clutch this could be a part to think about.

you will probably find that your stock pulley is balanced to your crankshaft, and also has the advantage of the rubber harmonic dampener built in. The balancing marks are on the rear of the pulley. The aftermarket item is a good way to void your engine warranty though ;)

the weight difference is substantial and easily noticed by holding the two pulleys by hand. installation is easy as the pulley is outside the engine. with the lightened pulley installed the overall responsiveness of the car feels increased not sure about increased fuel economy though. i tried looking for other brands but did not find any i thought trd might also offer this part but it seems to be quite specialised.

the stock does have rubber in it and the c-one full aluminium. thanks for the tip on warranty having the modifying bug you are always faced with that. the flywheel/clutch would cost you $300-$400 in labour to change back but the pulley is outside the engine.

thanks for the info on newcelica! like most performance parts you use at your own risk always do your own research to know the facts and the risks.

correct me if i am wrong but i read it was the unorthodox pulley that was killing oilpumps because of its poor design (unbalanced, low tolerances) and bad instructions for installation.

the other pulley with problems was UR and both are local products for them which seems to be not that well thought out and not expensive.

they say c-one is overpriced but it is a jdm factory

I think that aluminium and machining are all the same, don't matter if in the USA, Japan or Mongolia... If you take the correct material and program the machine to cut the correct shape, it should be allright.

They use UR, because its the only company offering it, and its quite pricey pulley ($250)... notice, that AEM doesn't offer crank pulley for 2zz-ge, alhough it has them on offer for 1zz-fe and the whole spectrum of engines... 2zz-ge seems to be the only one with the alternator pulley only... makes you think...

PPl on newcelica.org came to conclusion that it's the lack of the dampener that kills the engine -- and morevoer, the engine dies not when you're autocrossing or racing, but when you're criusing with constant speeds and revs.
